nope. all Special Service Campaigns are done, not TSB's. my buddy works at a toyota dealer and says that their way of checking out used cars are a joke. all it really is is just a oil change, rotate and brake check. thats what i HEARD.

first year of a body style change. like the 07's. if it is just minor changes and a face lift, it's no big deal. i learned my lesson when i bought my 01 civic. had some problems.

I"m a Toyota tech and i have owned my '05 Double cab for about a year now. I do have the driver's seat rocking, but I'm used to it, I don't notice that on other ones that i work on at the dealer though. My upper oil pan is "seaping" oil and I'm waiting till my next oil change is due and I'm having a buddy replace it under power train warranty. The 2UZ-FE's "4.7L V8 that is standard in the DC tundra's" are known to have leaky water pumps, but usually with higher mileage so i would recommend a water pump in addition to the timing belt replacement at 90,000 miles. Also my 2005 I believe was the first year that Toyota started to use the WS "world standard" Trans fluid, which is a lifetime fluid. Toyota recommends that you inspect it every 100k and replace if necessary. I think my ATF will be changed at least by 90k but maybe as early as 50k. As of now i have 44,000 and bought it with 30k. I love my truck and coming from a 2000 Ford SVT Lightning the 16mpg avg. with 87octane doesn't sound that bad.
Good luck but yes i would recommend limiting the search criteria for you Gen 1 tundra to '05-'06. BTW: i was considering an access cab but i'm very glad i bought the DC. The back seat is enormous.

My dad is a used car broker, so needless to say, I dont keep cars long. Yesterday I bought my 7th Tundra. I generally keep them about 6 months and sell to buy another one. This is my first one with the VVTi and 5 speed tranny. I do notice more power in it. I have not had a chance to load it up yet. My dad drove it yesterday home from the auction and even said that he noticed it had a good bit more power than his 01.

So far I am happy with the 05 (60 miles later....) but it do think it is much better than my 04 crew cab that I had last year. That one really showed its weight (both in power and gas mileage)

Got another questions.. Is there a noticable power/torque difference between the pre-05 model, and the 05-06? I know that in 05 there was suppse to be a 40hp increase. I drove a friends 01 pulling 16' boat and it was really straining on moderate inclines at highway speeds with OD off. I would like the 05-06 that I buy to be able to ocassionally pull my 18' car trailer. Think its capable?
The 05/06 has TONS more power than the 01, but IMHO, it still doesn't tow very well.

I had an 01 Sequoia 4WD, and it really struggled towing my 4500# travel trailer + 1,000 lbs of gear. My '06 Tundra DC 4WD has the new VVTi motor, and tows a bit better (mainly because of the 5 speed auto) but it still isn't something I'd want to tow cross country with. Running uphill, into a slight headwind, I was only able to maintain 52mph and that was WOT, ouch......

I'm looking to upgrade my current truck to something more powerful because of this.

I have 22k on the '06, and gas mileage sucks. city/hwy mix is always 11-12mpg, mostly hwy is 15-16, and if you're lucky, running downhill, with a tailwind, at 55mph with the A/C off, you can squeak 17mpg

If you're getting one, get an 05/06...........or maybe an older 04 and put a S/C on it

I'm not saying Tundras get very good gas mileage, but my 05AC 4WD got better gas mileage fully loaded on a cross country trip averaging around 75mph when new. Mine slipped to around 15mpg in west Texas averaging about 95. I guess trucks aren't supposed to drive that fast. Is yours a DC? If so, maybe that's the difference?

Yes, mine is an.......06 SR5 4WD DC, which has a higher (numerical) rear axle ratio than the AC and, thus, Mpg suffers a bit more.
