1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "vibration 15-29 MPH", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I've got a vibration when I'm coasting, just before I would normally put on the breaks. Usually in the 15 to 29 MPH range. Never when I'm under acceleration. Feels like it's coming from the rear sometimes and sometimes if feels like its coming from the tranny. Any ideas?

have you checked for a thrown wheel weight, or have tires been balanced lately? http://www.aa1car.com/library/tvibes.htm ? good luck!
Old USAF Crew Chief saying "It is probably still broken unless you have touched it" works in reverse with some! hehe!!

A REAL truck.
Looks to me like YOU need a BREAK, your truck needs BRAKES.
Sorry, couldn't help myself..........

a missing wheel weight would never be felt at these speeds, unless you lost several pounds of wheel weights. Even then you'd get a slower thump, not a vibration.
Possible tight universal joint, possible wheel bearing

agreed +1, I have kinda the same problem but i can feel the VIB even at the stop light. And when I gas the truck then it goes away. Someone said it has to do with the tranny other said something with the power break booters master thingy.
OK thanks for the ideas, but I went to Toyota today. It's a bad U-Joint. It's still under warranty and they will have it fixed by Wed next week. Good news for me. They said it was a TSB 600-something.

Do you remember which u-joint had to be replaced? I now have a similar vibration. (Bet its that crazy one in the middle.)
Also, the only "test" for a bad u-joint that I know about is to get on pavement and floor it. A bad one will ID itself with noise. Does anyone know a better way to isolate the problem?

That will tell you nothing. The only way to diagnose a ujoint problem is to remove the drive shaft and manipulate the ujoint by hand.
