Default Max Tire Size

I'm looking to get wheels and tires for my truck.

Truck is a 2004 Tundra Double Cab w/ TRD off-road package. Completely stock. (has 16" wheels now if it matters.)

Looking to get some 17x8 wheels, and larger tires.

I do NOT want the "sticking out past the flares look".

How much backspacing/ offset is needed? What size tire can I fit?

Thanks alot guys.

Answer us this first...why you want 17s? It's got an offroad package...so why the increase in rotating weight, greater expense for tires, etc...

You can probably pick up some factory 17s cheap.

There are a lot of good quality alloys these days in 16" and 17" sizes, but in the end it comes down to what you figure you can afford as far as rubber. It gets stupidly expensive, the larger the rim...particularly for larger tires.

If you plan to go offroad with this, keep the 16s. If not, it doesn't matter, but big rims and little tires don't work well with an offroad sticker.

I had 285/70's on my stock tundra for a day before my lift and it was ok for normal driving but they rubbed if you turned while braking hard or if you were backing up in reverse so If I were you I'd go one size smaller then that if your gonna run stock rims. If you go aftermarket with some backspacing you should be able to run a little bigger tire then the stock rims.

This truck is a complete drive queen. It will NEVER see dirt or mud or anything. Were looking for a non-aggressive tire with a slightly larger rim.
Only reason its 4wd is because of New England weather. Now take a deep breath and relax.

Teraflx-thanks alot.

Go with some 20s then. I have 20s on my truck and I wheel it all the time. Does really good.
