1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Interesting Letter From Toyota", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I just recieved a letter from Toyota Motor Engineering asking if I wanted to participate in a research study by "CAFLOR Industries." They want to put her up on a dyno and add 150 miles, to test the emissions for some CARB (California Air Resources Board) study. They'll repair any damages incurred, and they'll give me up to $325 and a full tank of gas at the completion of the study.
$100 for participating + $150 if no loaner vehicle needed + $75 if I wash my truck before I send it for testing.
Should I participate?

The only thing that rubs me wrong is the "up to $325" part. I would need to know exactly how much I get, if I get a loaner car and then figure out what it will actually cost me (Time and $). But I would probably do it for $325

I'm an unemployed vet going to school 3/4-time and I carpool there with my brother, so this seems an easy way to make a couple hundred plus some gas.

So, wash it yourself before going, and sit and wait while they do the testing. $325 in pocket, and if you don't have a job at the moment, you don't have a whole lot of lost time costs or anything for doing it. I'd do it if it were me and it were that simple.
I would want to watch and make sure they don't abuse the truck ! After all it is your baby, right ?

Well hopefully their engineers are nothing like those stealership horror-story techs. I forgot to mention that it will be over there at the course of five days, so I probably won't get to babysit 'em.
do it, get the loaner and drive the piss out of it and get it airborn, my opinion

Don't do it. Damage my not occur during the test, but the test could weaken and reduce the life of various components in your truck. This would cause breakage earlier than if you had not done the test. No reason to risk it.
