1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Removing Resonators", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I talked to a guy today (Titan owner) who said that removing the resonator would void the warranty. I'm not sure about that, but would it fall into the "if anything goes wrong from the resonators forward they will try to say it's not covered" territory?
As long as you don't mess with the cat it shouldn't be a problem. Removing the resonator should not cause any issues but you could call your dealer just in case.

Will it never end the dealer has to prove that removing the factory part and replacing it with aftermarket is the reason you have a problem. Q:What will go wrong the exhaust pipe will get to hot and melt off.LOL A: Nothing it just a straight through muffler anyway.Do and don't worry nothing will happen unless you bring it to some crappy muffler shop and they screw up the weld maybe you'll get a leak still in this case no major issues.
You are right, but sometimes if the service writer is a "company man" he will go out of his way to twist things around and find a way to deny warranty. It all depends on the guy / dealership.

That's the problem exactly. He may try to play you for an idiot and say you can't do that. So just call to where you normally go and make sure. I really don't think it will be an issue since that has nothing to do with anything except sound.
Just sound like you know what you are talking about even if you don't so he don't try to screw you over

You're modifying the exhaust system...Toyota probably won't warrenty the exhaust before your "add on" but I bet you won't have a componet failure either since the original system is Stainless Steel.
I installed a Flowmaster Cat Back system (17425) on my 2001 Tundra this past weekend and love the sound, resonator and all. Very deep rumble at idle and a good throaty sound at highway speeds. I think Flowmaster has done the most research on aftermarket performance mufflers than most. Very little drone at 60 -70 speeds and it's a head -turner in town!!
I think you'll be pleased!!

x2, thinking about just removing the resonator and running the exit out the side in front of the rear tire. Think there might be some drone if I do this?
im afraid to take off my resonator, cause my exhaust is loud as balls as it is. i might take it off to see how much louder it will be. ive got a flowmaster not sure what series, but its dual turndown. its ither a one or two chamber.

zapco if your exhaust is super loud , than there is no reason to take off the resonator.
this is for guy/girl's who want it to be louder. and belive me it will be alot louder. for me personally it is perfect. any louder would get me ticket's.
gorilla
what type do you have?
i have a cai, headers, no resonator, small magnaflow cat back with dual pipes. unichip.
i wonder how yours could be louder than mine, unless you removed your cat's.
or maybe you modified your engine to a stroker kit, turbo, or supercharger.
maybe you have glass packs,or no muffler at all.
that would do it.
just asking
gorilla
its got cai, tbs, stock exh manifold, stock cat, resonator, but its got a flowmaster muffler with dual 2.5in turndowns
and it all came with the truck when i bought it so i havent had to do anything to it besides tear out the crappy JL audio system

I just had the resonator removed today... i have a fm 40 and there is actually less drone now! Yea i know it doesnt make any sense but it doesnt drone much at all when it used to a lot around 1800 rpm. It is also slightly louder throughout the rpm range and has more of a growl at low rpms. It cost me 25 bucks.
I called local toyota dealer today. There warranty guru is out until friday so they could not give me a for sure answer. However, they did say that there would probably be no warranty issues as long as you don't replace anything in front of the last O2 Sensor. Now I'm confused. I thought the resonators were the things I can see from the engine and they are in front of the last O2 sensor. I thought the catalytic converters were the things I can see under the truck that have bolt-ons front and back. They are behind the last o2 sensor. I'm I tracking right? You go from block, to manifold, to resonators, to cats, to y pipe to muffler, right?
Dub Richardson Toyota said don't do it because it "may" void the warranty on your cats if they go out before 8 year 80K miles. He also said that replacing the muffler with might do the same thing.
I'm a little frustrated with the lack of warranty info out there.

The resonator sits just upstream from the main muffler and downstream of the cats. The o2 sensors ( count 4 ) are positioned upstream and downsteam of the cats. The exhaust flow goes like this; manifold-upstream o2 sensor- cat- downstream o2 sensor- y pipe- resonator- main muffler- exhaust pipe.
