Default Removing Resonators

OK. I still love my 18" Magnaflow, but I'm getting used to the sound. I'd like it a little louder. If I remove the Resonators is it going to drive me nuts or is this a worthwhile mod? Anybody done this? I searched but found little info.

i removed the resonator for the same exact reason you did, but i have flowmaster 40 on a v8 engine. it made a huge difference. hard to believe that a resonator quiets down the sound that much. it gets agervating when the rpm gets between 1,800 and 2,100 cruising but i love leaving stop signs and driving in the city. got mine removed for 30 dollers.

Cool. I was thinking it would be under $50. I think that may be my next mod. Did you notice any loss of low end?

Post Re: Removing Resonators

nope.... i think its because the resonator is just fiberglass on the inside. it had no restriction just a straight pipe with insulation around it, so it didn't restrict any flow or the path of flow.

No loss of low end I also have a 18 in magnaflow with resonator removed. Its a lot deeper.I also dumped my pipe didn't like the look of pipe in back.Only time it gets kinda annoying is in traffic stop and go it will sometimes drone but I don't mind just turn up the radio.I have tried all different speeds cruising and have yet to find one where you can even hear the muffler expect when accelerating on the freeway.

Super Cool! I'm def getting this done next week. I can get it done while my wife is out of town. Then I can see if she notices anything.

hi you will be so happy!
:-)
take a look at he inside of the resinaor, you wouldn't belive that such a small item does so much.
some call it droone, it might annoy some, many people have stated this on this forum, that the highway ride for long period's are annoying.
hey just make the audio louder.

i think my truck since the removel of my resinitor the sound the best it has ever been.
it is very loud, I LOVE IT!

it make's some car alarms go off,as i go by, or even when i start my truck up, and someone is next to me, it does the same thing. it's so funny.

the resinator will have no effect on power at all, but it will be much much louder.
good luck,
gorilla

Take it off!! I agree.I told the exhaust shop i didnt want the truck to sound like and import, haha,so they cut that thing off and put a flowmaster 40 with dual tailpipes on my 2001 tundra. It sounds awesome.Heads turn everywhere when people hear it.Sets off car alarms all the time just cruising.Smooth and loud.

I have a 18" Magnaflow and like it it( 04 V8). Would anyone take a guess about how much sound is increased when resonator is removed 25%, 50%....doubled? What do you think?

it's not that the sound has changed in anyway. it is MEAN, it sounds like you have some sort of modified power plant. it isn't going to sound like any other tundra..
sweet. louder yes sir, deeper yes.
cut your's off and save it, if you don't like it put it back on.
mine went in the garbage where it belongs. never ever to be put back on ever.

Had mine removed (because it the weld seem corroded through and a pinhole). Its definately a tad louder with more grumble. It does have more drone, but not much, (of course since thats what its supposed to stop). I got used to the slight drone at a certain rpm quick, sounds the same as stock on the highway to me.

You should have kept it and sold it! I got 20 bucks for mine

The resonator is just like a glasspack muffler. So imagine having sound deadening material soaking up sound frequencies before your real muffler ever gets a chance to do its job. It's just there to make the masses happy.

Default Re: Removing Resonators

I talked to a guy today (Titan owner) who said that removing the resonator would void the warranty. I'm not sure about that, but would it fall into the "if anything goes wrong from the resonators forward they will try to say it's not covered" territory?
