1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Upgrades for my new truck", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Hello everyone!
I'm new to the site, got my first truck back in December an 06 tundra limited DC. it came lifted with the fabtech 3" leveling kit. and all i have added was line-x.
my first question is about tires, im looking to put about a 33" AT on there, basically going for 285/70 R17, however i have read about problems with rubbing when keeping the stock rim which is what i would like to do to save money
then exhaust, i would like to get some flowmaster muffler (one that is pretty loud but not annoying) with it true dueled at 45s out the back. however my friend was telling me about getting it H-piped and i was wondering what would be better.
then i have a question about vent visors. i like the in-channel ones better bc they do not stick out as far off the truck. if you have these and have any pics i would love to see.
for the far away future i am also looking at putting in the new kenwood dnx8120 head unit and was wondering if anyone had it or could recommend an alternative to it that had the same features but was less expensive.

Look into 1.5" wheel adapters from WheelAdapter.com . They will push your stock rims out and allow the clearance needed. Lots of guys here (myself included) have them and they are great. They are a bit pricey, (about $95 a corner) but are custom made by a guy who builds race cars for a living, and they are still cheaper than new wheels. (beware of the el-cheapos on ebay)

Look into a Borla. I have Borla duals and they are not too loud and not too quiet.

All a man really needs for happiness in this world is a good woman, a faithful dog, and a big-a$$ed set of tires on his truck.

sorry its a lot, but thanks
Look into a Pioneer Z1 Navigation for head unit prices are coming down on this stuff and that by far is the best unit on the market.I wouldn't buy an single din for this tundra since Tundra is a dual din design and it look's odd to say the least. Feature wise get Navi it's worth every penny..
About exhaust don't go with Borla too loud and really annoying on the highway about 2 Rpm......I have since updated to the Trd Duals and yes it's made from Borla but the 2k noise nearly isn't as bad found on my former borla also get the side exit on the exhaust..

I had the Kenwood DNX5120 installed a few months ago and really love it. Even with adding on the Bluetooth, stearing wheel control and JBL AMP adapters it was cheeper than the 8120.
true duals will sound badass. If you want something loud but without the drone inside, check out the dynomax bullets. Being true dualed, id say go with the 18" one. Or you can look into Flowmaster 40 series. For the H-pipe, H pipe works, but i would lean more to an X pipe on our trucks. Make sure you true dual the exhaust with 2.25" piping in the X-pipe and up to the mufflers, then go with 2.5" piping after the mufflers. That will give the best performance. If you would use 2.5" piping before the muffler then you will lose torque, so use 2.25" BEFORE the mufflers.
Yes, 285's will fit, just get some wheel adapters.

A REAL truck.
yeah thats what i was thinking even rims were $40 more than the $95 adapters i could just get new rims. dont think this will happen soon, just going to wait till my stock tires are worn out i think, i am a poor college student.

how loud is loud? i want it to sound really good and not lose any mpg or perfomance
well im 21 and like my exhaust loud. Mine definition of loud is something able to be heard without a question, but i don't consider my exhaust obnxious by any means.
IF you want to be on the safe side, look at the 70 series flowmaster or even though im not a fan of them too much, look at the 14" body magnaflows.
