Default Brakes Clicking - forward and reverse??

I noticed the other day that if I put my truck in reverse and go back 2-3 feet, I hear a click from my front end when I hit my brakes.

I then go forward 2-3 feet and I hear the click again. This is repeatable and only happens the first time I use my brakes after going in the opposite direction.

Distance does not matter either. If I pull out of my driveway, I hear a click when I brake. I can then drive 2-3 blocks and when I go to stop, I hear the click again when I brake. It will not do this until again until I go in reverse.

The dealer said it's my front hub or axle and it's supposed to do that.

Any advice on the above statement? Anyone experienced the same thing?

Truck is under warranty and they are the original brakes (25K miles) so if its not supposed to do that - I wouldn't mind getting it fixed.

Thanks

you know what man my 02 TRD limited tundra does the same thing. Dealer checked brakes supposedly and they say its fine. Another independent shop checked them and they say its fine. Next brake job will get done at a toyota dealership for suree to see if they can fix this issue.

My '02 AC 4X2 does the same thing. My service rep at the stealership told me it was the brake pads moving slightly in the calipers. They get pushed to one side when braking in reverse, then get pushed back when braking going forward. Not so positive that this is the situation, but it sure is annoying...

I hear it everyday when backing out of my driveway. I don't need to go forward to repeat the sound. I hear the click as many times as I hit the brakes backing out. I'm going to guess that it clicks EVERY time I hit the brakes... I just don't hear it when I'm on the road.

Could be the brake pads, or a lot of other stuff...

Check that the long bolts going through your upper control arms are tight, 72ft#. If they're loose, they'll click in exactly the same manner, tho I'd be surprised if it happened on such a new truck.

Any feeling of play, wander or wobble in the steering?

Just throwing out possibilities...tho not likely it's anything but the brake pads, unless you've made some mods to the truck.

This is quit normal. There are no spring clips on either end of the pad that would dampen this noise. So as some have mentioned here, the pads will shift slightly in the calipers and make this noise. Won't hurts a thing and is nothing to worry about.
But, that said, it never hurts to check things.

Thanks for the advice. The truck runs straight and perfect all the time.

I will have them look at the bolt just in case but I am getting the sense that it's nothing to worry about...... but it's always good to ask you guys.

BTW - this has to be the best forum going. I am looking to buy a used lexus and if that forum is 1/2 as helpful.... I'll be smiling .

I hate those kinds of noises. While I haven't had that happen with the Tundra, I have had that problem with other vehicles in the past. NAPA sells some red-colored stuff that is applied like caulk and quickly dries into a rubber-like substance that will stabilize noisy pads. It is specifically made for disk brakes and scrapes off easily when you change pads. A couple of dabs might solve the problem. Sorry, I can't rermember the proper name, just tell them the red rubbery stuff to quiet disk brakes.

Edit: CRC makes the stuff. Called "brake quiet." Check Autozone, Advance, etc.

This might be effective temporally, or as long as the pads stick to the pistons. Don't try to use this on the end of the pads, they must move in the caliper. Better to try some silicone brake grease, conservatively applied to the end oh the pads. Might make a difference.
