1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Long turnover?", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I have a 2000 v8 and I've been noticing that it takes a real long time(10 seconds) before the engine turns over. I just changed out my spark plugs to platinum ngk's and I check the gap and set it to about .35... Still takes 10 seconds to turn over. So I got a new battery because it was turning real slow. That sped it up but it still takes about 5 seconds of cranking to get it to start. Anyone else have this problem?
It doesn't seem like the starter to me, as since I put new battery in it cranks at like mach 5 speeds. I don't really know newer cars but it sounds like its some kinda fuel pump or injection issue. Has anyone else had problems with fuel delivery?
you said after the new battery it still took 5 seconds to turn over. It sounds like your brushes are dragging and slowing your starter motor down. The increase in voltage from the new battery would speed things up a bit for a while but you still have a problem if it is taking 5 seconds to turn over. Now if your truck is turning over fine but not firing that is not how you described it in the beginning, and that would be either not enough air, (check for blockage and clean air filter) or fuel (check for any leaks and replace fuel filter, poss clogged injector) or spark (hows them new plugs look?). Just trying to help but your not very clear on what it is doing. It's turning over at mach 5 or it's turning over 1 time in 5 seconds? I re-read your post and now I understand what you were saying sorry about that. It sounds like a fuel filter or dirty injectors. I've heard that BMW fuel injector cleaner is the best money can buy, but it is expensive. Good luck, it doesn't sound major.

Hay sr5Mike did you end up trading for that FERD? I see your still here with us.
Yes I did. But for the time being I still get to drive the tundra. Since it was a trade with the mother in law. She only wants my truck to pull her small trailer so it is not a daily driver for her. So on paper the deal is done but in the driveway still sits the tundra. At the end of august I am pulling the fifth wheel and the plan is that I don't go and swap trucks back then. So at that point I will have the ford as a daily driver. My 15 y/o son has been saving money and wants a tundra for his first car so we will be looking at some used ones soon. I have a friend that can goes to the auto auctions so we will go look there.

Yes she did. She knows she is getting a great truck. But that deal on the fifth wheel was to hard to pass up. 2004 36 ft 3 slides used about a dozen times for 20k. The unit is a loaded versions. Our friends call it the "Taj Ma Hall".

Ok, its turning the starter realy realy fast, but the engine isnt fireing. I was thinking fuel filter, where is it located? and are there more than one?
yes. I cleaned throttle body and if you meant mass airflow sensor, yes.
Is that your universal answer here? Truck has problem. Must be the mass airflow! or throttle body!
eh, enough sarcasm. I'm gonna try new fuel filter since its stock and has over 100k
