1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "CV Boot Grease", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
3" level kit. Diff Drop. CV Boots spraying grease. Doing the CV Boot Clamp mod tomorrow (thanks TS once again). Should I look at adding grease for those CV boots. Since they have lost about 800 miles or so .. Also what type of grease is best.
Yes, you should add some grease. At the very least it can't hurt to have more in there.
Go to Advanced Auto or something of the like and simply pick up a small tub of universal grease. It should be over by the oil. There should be a couple of different brands. Any type should be OK really. You can get some synthetic stuff if you would like but the lower grade stuff would do just fine.
Also, pick up a box of latex gloves. That grease sticks to everything. Simply pull back the end of the boot and stuff it full of that crap using your fingers (hence needing the gloves!) I did that along with the CV mod and haven't had a problem is over a 1K miles.

Yea like moose said all you gotta do is slide the large end of the boot off to pack grease in, but you should use cv grease instead of universal. A lot of universal grease says it works for cv's but they make grease made for cv joints. I just picked up a pouch of it today... they had to get it from behind the counter at advanced... it comes in a pouch that looks like this
