how will cleaning the Maf sensor solve a tranny prob?
It won't and lucky for the OP it is not confirmed that it is a tranny prob. I had issues very similar to the OP mine would not stall but would come very close and stumble when placed in any gear. I had 80k on my 02 at the time. I cleaned the throttle body,MAS and replaced the orignal spark plugs. My problem went away and it ran like the day I drove it off the lot.

Torque converter is stuck in lock up. Very common. It will move if you rev it up and take off. I have been able on occasion to slam it hard enough to unstick them. That doesn't mean it is fixed though. It is probably not a mass air flow or misfire issue without a check engine light on. Good luck.

When my 01 with 93+/-K stalled in my drive way and ran just fine in N or P, it turned out that my torq converter granaded and blew bad stuff into my tranny.
New tranny, thank god it was under extended warranty.
I too had a 43 mile tow to the dealer, covered by warrenty
Just as a follow-up, I took the Tundra to the Toyota dealership in West Plains, Mo. I could start it and drive it if I popped it into drive and reved it. It would run down the road. They told me it had an internal failure and Toyota only replaces them with a rebuild. Cost would be $3400 plus labor, taxes and fluids. Trans is guaranteed for 60,000. Mine had 69,000 fortunately for the 1st time I bought an extended warranty. My cost will be $300 approx. (Plus what I paid for the warranty, certainly) Thanks again for all the other advise, didn't hurt to try, and now I know some new things! Leon
