1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Keyless Entry Beeper", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Hi Everyone,
I have a 2002 Tundra Limited with 29,000 miles on it and just recently the beeper that signals the doors are locking or unlocking when using the keyless entry remote has started to become less loud than normal when the remote is activated. Actually, it gets very low almost like a squeek instead of the normal beep.
This situation seems to become more frequent when it rains hard or we have alot of rain an it is damp out. Once it drys out for a couple of days the beeper sounds at its normal sound level.
Any ideas to the problem?
Thanks,
John
you can replace that annoying beeper if you so desire. Most people would love to get rid of it !
It is located under the hood, right behind the battery ( near the firewall)

I disconnected mine and wrapped it in electrical tape to keep the water out. You may be shorting. Probably be a good idea to yank it and tape it. Look in the right side of the engine bay back near the firewall and behind the battery. Added a pic below.

Hi,
Thanks guys for the feedback.
I don't want to disconnect the beeper, I just want to get it to work normal when we get heavy rain along with really damp weather.
I think I found the device that makes the beeping noise. It is located on the drivers side fender wall between the batery and the master cylinder.Attached to a small diameter loose fitting plastic coating wrap on the line. At the end of the line is a small device that reminds me of a pcv valve that has a round opening on the end of it with the loose, plastic line attached to the other end. The round device has a ball of some sort that floats loosely in the device. When I activate the remote this is where the noise comes from.
Once again, It only low beep when it has really rained hard, when the weather dries out it works fine.
Thanks,
John
HI,
My beeper is working fine now with the dry weather. I may be crazy but I like the beeper when it is working properly. It sure beats a blareing car horn. It also confirms that the signal from the hand held remote has activated the locks and security systems.
These remote transmitters defintely suck when it comes to range. My wife's 2006 Subaru Outback has an incredible range.
Thanks,
John
