1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "New 06 Lift, Wheels, and Tires", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
So with the 5100's on the top groove and Mojave (bs 4.5) 285/70/17s will fit?
I dont want ANY rubbing!
The stock tire (in the photo) is 265/70/17 = 31.6
I ordered 275/70/17 = 32.2
285/70/17 = 32.7
Check out my profile pictures. 285/70/17's 3" lift up front. Get the 285's. And do the CV BOOT CLAMP MOD. Save your CV's now before the blow all their grease and rip the boots. Also a Diff Drop for $20 bucks is a good idea too.

I did the diff drop already and need to go get the hose clamps, though if im going to bother i might just get the heavier duty boots.
I also misread the current tire.
Its 265/65/17 or 30.6 not 265/70/17 like I thought.
So the 275/70/17 i ordered will be about 1.6" bigger.
I had the shop special order them, so they may kill me if i waltz in and request a different tire.
Wheels werent shipped so I wont get them till next week
Will post pics as new peices get added

I purchased a spacer kit from fat bob's garage. I like it ride and lift wise but am now socking away for 5100's. I might put the 5100's on top of the spacers and lift the back 3 inches.

good luck with that one... I can't imagine your angle will be remotely acceptable.

Nothing too fancy, just better than stock!

Yeah everyone I talked to was very clear that the 5100s and a Spacer was a no-no. 3" pretty much takes the control arms to their limits as it is, some would say a little too far.
For 6" you would want to do 5100s and a body lift, or get into a real long travel kit.
The 5100s really are the same thing as a spacer. They just reposition the spring. (I have both on different trucks and self installed both)
The main benefit I can see of the 5100 is that the assembly is 1 piece like stock, not a disc bolted on top of the strut/spring assembly. In theroy this should lead to lest creeking and clunking. The 5100 are supposed to be valved better as well.

Like they said, it will never happen....I don't even think it is physically possible. I had 3" spacers on mine for a minute, but couldn't stand slowing down to 5 mph over every bump and bad spot in the road. I pulled them and went with the Toytec coilovers from Fat Bob's. I couldn't be happier and will NEVER do a spacer lift again.
Part 2 done. Installed the Pop N Loc tailgate power lock today. Went fairly smooth. Used the spot where the other wires come in under the drivers seat. So nice to just hit the remote lock button and know my tailgate isn't going to get jacked,
Wheels, tires and cap are due to be in on Tuesday

Thanks, for the feedback on that. I completely agree. The spacers now I see are just a pacifier for a need that I had for my 285's. I just checked Fat Bob's site. Toytec looks good. You say they ride and perform well off road also?
They ride great...not as bumpy as it was with the spacers, but then again I'm not banging the upper control arms every time I hit a bump. Also, it is more firm in the corners and when braking. I haven't actually had it off-road yet as I've only had them on about a week, but I've hit some pretty horrendous bumps and bad spots with nary a sound. Trust me, you want coilovers!!! If you want more than 3" of lift, I would suggest a proper lift kit or adding a body lift to the coilovers. Their coilovers are built on bilstiens.
Also, Fat Bob has some pretty good discounts...I got a 10% military discount and I believe they offer other discounts. I got them delivered to the house for about $670.
