1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Who has 4.0 V6 Manual Trans Access Cabs", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Just curious how many owners have the 4.0 V6 in access cabs with manual transmissions and what kind of gas mileage you are getting. I just bought a 2006 SR5 six speed manual for my son who recently turned 16. I have tried to get him to trade me his truck for mine which is the same except for an automatic transmission. I love driving his truck and it has gotten 22.7 mpg and 21.8 mpg the two times I have checked since owning it. This was mostly highway driving on two lane roads at 55-65 mph with occasional stops going through small towns. This is a great little truck and I got a sweet deal on it because of the manual transmission!

Got a 2000 Access Cab 4x4 V-6 5 speed with only the 3.4. I wish I had 6 speeds, with the 4x4 that is a total of 14 different gears!!!!! That would be so cool. But I don't believe they ever made the 6 speed with the 4x4 access cab. I am always so sad to hear about another automatic transmission failures. I hate automatics, they always fail.

How many mpg are you getting with your truck? I didn't know they made a 4x4 Tundra with a V6. Sounds like a neat truck.
Before I put my Four Wheel Camper on the back, you can see it in the picture to the left I always got over 20mpg, in fact I kept a log and the average was right in the middle of the 20.5 range for the whole ride, when I put the camper on the back it dropped to 16-18 on the highway and it is a speed thing. I took a 20K trip to Alaska and because it was almost impossible to go over 55 the 20 mpg was the norm, going 65-70 it drops to an average of 17-18 depending on the headwind. I love the transmission and have never had a problem with power, it can go uphill as fast as I will ever need and crawls in 1 LOW just fine but having 6 speeds was be even cooler! I have a little over 133K and the brakes are over 50% and original, setting the parking brake every time I believe is why manuals will not go through the front pads. I drive on snow a lot and what I really like is the ability to lug the engine and don't have to worry about the power downshift when driving on a lot of ice.
Yup. Got a 5sp MAnual, 3.4L V-6 myself. As shown on my avatar. If I'm not mistaken, 1st Gen V6 Tundras only had the 3.4L and you could only get a manual in the V6 models period. I'v never kept up with the second Gens so I can't comment on those..
