1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "When should i change my plugs?", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Hey, So i dont exactly know when to change my plugs for sure. can someone help me out?
and what plugs should i use if i cange em?
should i get new plug wires, and which ones?
With the '03 V8, every 30K. Stick with NGK or maybe Denso. The basic copper core is fine. But there are many, many posts on this site that swear by the fancier, higher priced ones. Wires and coils are not routinely replaced. They are fine until a problem occurs.
By the way, the plugs are super easy to change. Be sure not to over-tighten!

i didn't change plugs on my 2000 until 60k miles. didn't notice any difference when i did. now have 55k on my '04 and it still runs perfectly. On my 99LC with 135K miles I've only changed plugs once. Once again, I noticed no difference im performance or mileage.
Will like platnium plugs help with preformange or mileage at all?
I have a freind that owns a auto shop and he can prettymuch get me everything at cost.
so would it be worth it to get Platnium plugs, since i can get em cheaper?
or should i just go with the NGK's, and save sum money?

Anybody can throw money at something. To me, half the fun is doing it right, but the other half is doing it without spending a lot of money. I am always impressed with the guy who does something for $10 instead of $100. Call it a hobby.
Anyway, read this and make up your own mind. Spark Plugs

I have a 2004 4.7L and as Toyota has told me to change my plugs every 30,000 miles, I've changed the plugs at 30,000 miles with exactly what they put in in the first place. I have new plugs on the way for my 90,000 mile change as I'm at about 87,000 miles now.
I was told by Toyota down here to not even think about the plugs until 90k. Not to sure why you would change the plugs every 30k. I have never changed plugs any earlier then atleast 60k or in my opinion is a waste of time and money.

Different plugs are specified for different model years. The OP has an '03 and it came with standard plugs. The '03 manual sez 30K.
