good point. do you know the curb weight of the tundra and tacoma? I'm just worried that the tundra is sluggish in acceleration and cornering compared to the tacoma. I like the outside and inside of the tundra alot more. that and how its not as common as tacomas.

http://www.car-stats.com

This website lists the stock V8 Tundra going 0-60 in 8 seconds and the extended cab Tacoma going 0-60 in 9.2 seconds. I don't think you will have any problems with the V8 Tundra in acceleration. The 32-valve V8 engine is very strong in the Tundra. The Tundra weighs about 1000 lbs. more than a Tacoma. Look up the specifications on Toyotas website it's all there.

Cornering is not bad. A sway bar and stiffer front shocks will take care of the problem. My Tundra accelerates faster than my friends Tacoma....and the passing ability with the V8 is awesome. The motor definitely shines at high RPM's. I will admit though.....the acceleration is somehting to be desired, but once it gets up to about 2800 RPM's WATCH OUT!!! As far as wheeling (if you care) I was up in Tahoe and went on a Jeeps only trail with my friend and his Tacoma and I had no problem going everywhere he went. As you can see...I'm a little biased when it come to Tundra vs. _____ questions. DeMello OR maybe a little less biased since he has a Taco and a Tundra....

My legs were a tad too long for sitting/driving during extended trips in a Tacoma; that was just one of many factors that made me decide to get a Tundra.

I test drove a Tacoma and it was way too small for my 6'0'' body, plus it was really cramped inside, like a raised economy car. I did wish that the Tundra had a rear locking diff, sunroof and aftermarket support like the Tacoma, but its a new vehicle..and hopefully we will have more stuff to blow our money on.

I have had 3 taco's and 2 tundras, The biggest difference that I miss about the tacoma is the stiffer suspension for baja style offroading. The front of the tundra is too soft for big a$$ holes at higher speeds like I used to hit in my taco 98 TRD. The v8 is the decision maker for me. It will deffenitaly beat a taco, but more importantly is it is effortless accel where the taco kinda labors a bit when you gas it.

Iforcev8,

you are cramped in a taco?, I am 6'3" 250 and fit fine. I think the taco has more leg room than my tundra. It seems as if the driver seat does not go as far back as in the taco, as if they were worried about rear seat room more in the tundra.

Finally , hey toyota where the hell is the rear OEM tundra locker, like the taco has.

thanks for everyone's help. I think I have made up my mind. I don't really need a big truck to tow. I will mainly use it for daily driving and offroading. For those reasons, and that i don't want a V8, I have decided on a tacoma trd. But I will always respect tundras. I rearely see them, and when i do, my head always turns to take a long glance. those trucks are beautiful, but too heavy for my needs. does anyone know of a tacoma forum like this one? I think i don't belong here anymore. hehehe.

Question Tundra vs Tacoma

I am a recent college graduate, and currently back in school. I am looking to spend between 23000 to 25000 on a new vehicle. I am looking between the tundra and tacoma, and I really can't decide. Either way would be an extended cab. If I got a tundra...it would be used. I would probably get a new tacoma. My concerns with the tundra are gas mpg and shear size (parking on a college campus). Having all of that room would be really nice, but is it necessary. Can 4 people ride comfortably in it? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Looking at your situation, the tacoma is probably best. 4 averaged sized persons can fit fine for maybe a 30 to 1 hour drive. Anything more would be cruel without a rest stop. I was really cruel when I had my cousin and 2 other friends in the back for a 6-7 hour drive with only one pit stop. They are about 5'8" and about 170-180lbs. They hated me for a while. Until they asked me if they could use my truck to haul some stuff.

IMO: Choose the one that better suits your lifestyle. Good luck with your decision.

Default Well I have both

I've got a 2000 Tacoma PreRunner TRD and a 2002 Tundra SR5 Access Cab 2x4. You are right, maneuvering wise the Tacoma is pretty nimble. I can just fling it into parking lots and not have to worry about the guy next door bashing my sides. The Tundra always has a tighter fit around most shopping center parking lots.

The gas mileage is about 2 mpq higher on the PreRunner than the Tundra (V6 vs V8). The cruising range on the PreRunner is about 250 miles and 350 on the Tundra (till the fuel light goes on) YMMV.

Space wise tho, there is no comparison. My 13 year old daughter cringes when I use the PreRunner and she has to ride in the back. She's about 5-7 and 130lbs and has long legs, she has to sit at an angle to have any leg room. On the Tundra she is much happier especially if the drive is anything over an hour.

Now mind you neither one is a 4x4 but the PreRunner is a blast going up and down the mountains with. Personally, the PreRunner is a fun toy. The Tundra is a commuter and vacation vehicle. The Tundra is great on long trips. It is incredibly smooth and cushy in comparison to the Taco. The Tundra's engine just loves to climb on grades, while the Taco's will struggle with any kind of weight on it.

Once again, these are my personal experiences with each.

but since you're considering a tundra, i'd assume the price isn't the deciding factor.
It would be in considering I would be getting a used one versus a new one.
