Default Towing a Tundra

I have a 2001 Tundra V8, 2 x 4. I need to find out how to tow it behind a moving van for 1200 miles. Any information would be apperciated.

Remove the driveline or get the back tires off the ground. If you remove the driveline mark it so it goes back the same as it went out.

I tow my 2000 4x4 behind my RV all the time. You definitely need to disconnect the driveshaft from the rear end. Whether you totally remove the driveshaft or secure the unbolted end is something to think about. I have a bracket I installed and I rebolt the loose end. You will also need to leave your key in the ignition and unlock the steering so the truck will track behind the towing vehicle.

Because I do this all the time, (I'm a full time RVer), I have a Roadmaster tow bar and the associated brackets designed for my truck. I also have an auxillary brake system that activates the tundra brakes when needed.

If you use a two wheel tow dolly you will save yourself some grief with the steering lock stuff and most have some sort of a built in braking system but you will still need to disconnect the driveshaft.

You're better off finding someone to caravan it with you and sending them back via Southwest Airlines! That's what, a $100 ticket, maybe??? You'll spend at LEAST that in time and aggravation screwing around with the driveshaft and the towing...

My $0.02 ($0.012 after taxes)

Towing is easy if you tow it with right vehicle/SUV/truck.
Disconect a driveshaft is very easy also (it should not take you more then 10 minutes to do that). So go for it.
