Default Spark Plugs Fouled??

Hi

Changed my spark plugs yesterday. The ones i took out had about 20,000 miles on them. They are standard cooper Champion plugs and were replaced with Champion plugs. When they came out they all looked about the same. What i cant figure out from the pics in my manual (cause bw pics) is if they are fouled at all. I have attached two pics. They were pretty much rusty colored with some darker than others on the threads and a black strip at top. All of them were still gapped correctly. Thoughts and comments appreciated....

As far as I can see it looks like your plugs burned normally?

They look OK to me. If you found them oil- or coolant-fouled (or the electrode is smashed down...), then you have problems. Make sure to stick with the Denso or NGKs and you'll be fine.

I bought them on e-bay for 20% off retail price. I could see a big difference while driving at night. It is a great buy for the money!

1. You said the old plugs are Champion, but they are marked Denso. IMHO, Densos hold up better, so the gaps probably weren't affected.
2. The duty cycle is 30K, so the plugs should not have been that messed up to begin with. I would"t recommed it, but you could have just stuck the old ones back in and got another 10K.
3. Looks to me that you are using good, clean gasoline and have an engine in good condition.

Take a look at this chart the differences are fairly obvious with bad burning plugs.

Verrill: Plug Color Chart

But I would say those look good any how.

They look pretty good. I have an 06 and it calls for iridium and longer change intervals. Use the plugs Toyota asks for and the change interval and you should be fine.
