1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Anyone out there replaced their engine?", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I have on 02 Tundra SR5 4.7 V8 4x4. Love the truck, it's been a great runner, still is. I've taken great care of the truck, underbody, running gear is in great shape. I have about 175,000 on it now and am thinking about putting a new engine/trans in it when this engine kicks. Any recommendations out there?
lol, sorry for the not serious answer, but it would be really cool to beef up the suspension and put some sort of diesel. but i have no clue about in reality.
question for you though, why would you replace the tranny? just old age or??

I'd like to see someone adapt (and provide a write-up "How To") a 5.7 engine and trans to a 1st Gen. Probably need the ECM to go with it and how that would be adapted the the 1st Gen.
Seriously, I know a local shop that specializes in Japanese engines and transmissions, rebuilds/remans I believe. I stopped in to see if they did tranny flushes and saw units sitting on shipping pallets. No tranny flushes..... Don't know anything else about them, but if you wanted their phone number I could get it next time I go that way.

keep the 2uz and bolt up a stroker to 5.3l and run some really fat cams! that would be a mean motor and at about the same cost but with much less trouble than the 5.7l 3rz

my ave combined economy is right at 30mpg using the truck only Sat/Sun, so i feel greener than uncle sam (27cafe?).
3 forced induction jetski's for weekend play so i guess i'm not so green after all.
Why would you switch to a 1uz? you lose .7 liters? just swap rods and drop a m112 on the 2uz and you will have a tq monster! or just stroke it with cams and try not to lose your teeth!
