This is a discussion thread titled "fuel additives...yes/no?", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
just wanted to see if anyone uses them.i know there are about a hundred different ones from cleaners to octane boosters.do they help or is it just hype, after every oil change or once a year.your thoughts, experiences with them....
I buy the Wal-Mart brand 3 pack that is like $2.50 and put in every other fill up. I dont know if helps....but it cant hurt.

I ran a bottle of Gum out fuel injector cleaner last time I did my oil change. It good for about 3,000. It doesn't hurt though I would not add any octane booster unless you want your mpg to drop a little. Its like giving your truck a shot of Jack Daniels.
Over 88,000 miles/5-years, I've been keeping a running log of my MPG, using the Trip2-total miles traveled and dividing it by Gallons used/put in the tank, my MPG have been consisitent over the entire 88,000 miles/5-years using NO additives. I'm sure they don't hurt anywhere but the wallet/bank account. I do use Shell gas as it is advertised as having "cleaners" in it, so if my MPG has not varied and has stayed the same, I've no need to add anything to "fix" anything.
I put a bottle of STP concentrated injector cleaner (black bottle) every oil change @ 3,000 miles. Seems to help, but I can't prove it.

I don't use anything, but it shouldn't hurt to use these cleaners every once in a while. I just cleaned my TB at 50k and it wasn't really that dirty. I'm sure my injectors are good because the truck runs like it always has and my gas mileage is still around 20 mpg. I will probably pay for an injection cleaning @ 100k. It worked for my Dodge, which had 174k on it when my wife wrecked it. I got the same gas mileage on my Dodge that I did when it first rolled off the lot.

Nope, I don't believe in that crap.
If you change your oil like you should, there shouldn't be a problem. Usually all the build up comes from people who don't change their oil and use sub standard oils.....

I pour a quarter bottle of Southern Comfort in at every fill up. This helps me when my truck drifts off onto the rumble strips and over the white lines, I also have a reason if I ever get pulled over for swerving. I would be curious to see what my truck blows on the breathalizer. I would also be curious to see an officer perform the test. He would say "ok blow for 5 seconds at full breath" And I would be in the cab and stomp it. I have also noticed during the summer months, when I switch to Tequila, my truck always wants to race and ram people....

lol...
i know that some gas co. already have cleaners in it like chevron(techron) and shell (v-power). i personally use the lucas one every oil change and haven't had any problems. my neighbor once used the techron cleaner from chevron and he said that it messed up his injectors. i don't know if he put the right amount of gas when he did it but i know he paid a lot of $$$ to have the injectors changed.
I use a blend of Gumout Regane (PEA is the key ingredient) and 2 cycle oil for upper cylinder lubrication in a 500:1 ratio (2oz per 10 gallons) or 250:1 for cheap gas ie. Costco.
