Default Odd whirring noise, occurred overnight, any clues?

I have encountered an odd whirring noise on my '02 Tundra. During the previous day there were no noises or issues and then the next day I go to start it up and there is this odd whirring noise which sounds reminiscent of the noise you hear when you crank the steering wheel all the way to the left or right....but in my case it is there when I first start up the vehicle and doesn't change any when steering to the left or right, nor is the steering affected at all. The sound will go away when the vehicle has warmed up, usually a ride of 10 minutes and the sound has dissipated.

Any ideas/insights into what it might be?

I have replaced the serpentine belt before and I have had the timing belt done. The vehicle currently has 122,000 miles on it.

Thanks,
Ivan

You might be low on power steering fluid.

When you had the T-Belt changed.....did the idler pulleys and H2O pump get changed too?

You could also take the Serp belt off and start it up to confirm that one of the serp belt driven accessories is making the noise....the belt comes off pretty easy....just put an arrow on it so you can put it back rotating the same direction (my 0.02!)

Take a listen down by the heater fan motor below the glove compartment when it's cold. Not unusual for the motor to make some noise when cold with dry bearings.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to siphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????

Well, the fluid ended up being low, which now has me concerned that there might be a leak? But I still think it's odd that one day its fine and the next it's low?

At 122,000 miles is the power steering pump at a questionable point? I don't think you go through power steering fluid unless there is a seal leaking?

Any way to chase down or inspect for a leak?

Thanks,
Ivan

Corvette Action Center Knowledgebase :: Service Bulletin: Fluid Leak Detection
Lotta parts stores sell this leak detection ya just pour into your power steering pump and hold a black light next to it to find leak! It's been around for long time and neither the light or the fluid are that expensive! what is a Whirring noise?
