can I store a factory alloy wheel as the spare?

Hi folks,

My truck came with the (horrible lug-centric) factory steel wheels, and I'm looking to replace them with factory alloy wheels. Does the spare tire storage accept a factory alloy wheel as the spare? I'm not sure if the carrier bracket would fit an alloy wheel, and I have no factory alloy wheel to look at. If it does, I could buy five alloy wheels and switch to 5-wheel rotations. This better spreads out wear and makes it easier to rotate tires in the driveway, as one corner must be up in the air at a time.

It should I have the enkei deep six 20 in wheel for my spare it fits.It was an xsp option for the Tundra southeast

yes it does, but when you install the spare, the face of the wheel needs to be facing up, like it came from the factory. of you can do what i did and put the face facing down towards the ground so i can access the TPWS on the spare. but then again, my truck came with a steelie as a spare.

My 03 has an aluminum adapter that came from Toyota with my truck so you can put the alloy wheel in place of the spare as not to damage the finish. The instructions that came with it also stated that if your spare is steel and wheels are alloy you must use different lugs for the different type wheels.

one time i had a flat and lugs fom alloys don't fit well on steel spare, does not look safe to me.I may get one alloy wheel as spare, or find some steel spare tire lugs.(as spare)

I have aftermarket wheels and an original steel wheel for a spare. I carry a set of lug nuts for the steel wheel in with the jack etc..
