Does anyone else experience a slow rising needle on their gas gauge after filling up? Is this normal?
I recently borrowed a friend's 2004 Sequoia. I put gas it in for them and when I started the vehicle the needle immediately rose to the filled point. The needle on my truck takes a couple minutes to get to the filled point.

I have that problem but only when it is at the half way mark or below. When I turn it off then on it takes a couple of minutes to go back up from the empty mark.
Nope, mine pegs full right away. Sensor/float might be dirty or something. I wouldn't sweat it.
Mine has actually behaved this way since it was brand new. I only realized it was slow recently when I filled up my friend's Sequoia and saw how the needle immediately went from empty to full on her vehicle. It kind of stinks that I just found this out after all this time. I'd be surprised if the Dealer would do anything to fix it under warranty.

Mines take a couple of minutes to reach the full mark after filling up too, but it has always been that way since new. Mines doesn't even go down to the empty mark when I turn off the engine. It just stays where it is.

Yeah, mine stays where it is too when I shut it off. As long as the slow needle movement is normal at fill up, I'm not concerned. It's annoying but I'm much more concerned about accuracy and that it is steady as it descends as fuel is consumed.

Mine does it too, my old '96 Tacoma did it, my uncle's T-100 does it, my dad's 93 toyota pickup does it, his 83 toyota pickup did it, I'm pretty sure my parents' old carolla did it too.
Every Toyota I've ever checked for that does it, but I've never checked on a Sequoia.
Always slow. Just never thought about it. Figured that was the way it was supposed to be.

Yes, they have to be "dumbed down" a fair amount (i.e. made slow) so the gauge does not try to follow fuel sloshing around as the truck accelerates, turns, etc. As mentioned, as long as it tracks the fuel as it is consumed I would not worry about it.
