After much research and indecision, I finally pulled the trigger on a Kenwood DNX5120. In my many weeks of searching, I couldn't find a pic of this unit in a first gen., so I have added some for those who may be considering a similar head unit. I only installed it about 24 hours ago, but so far, it has exceeded my expectations. I used the OEM Celica spacers (thanks V8yamaha), but I think they were unnecessary with this unit, as they were hidden once the bezel was installed!

looks sweet! i installed mine a couple weeks ago and i am very happy with it. install was easy, looks great in the dash, functions are awesome and the sound quality with my stock speakers is great! i did get a defect back up camera from crutchfield but they are taking care of that. great product!
Good to know that you still like yours! If you have a little extra dough to blow, try the Infinity 6022si in the front doors. It's an unbelievable difference from stock. I have those, plus an amplified 8" Bazooka. BTW, how the heck do you set the radio presets on this thing? Everything else has been easy, but I can't get the presets right.

great looking unit BAMAFIRE. Did you have the steering wheel controls in your truck before ? and if so, can you still use them now with the new head unit ?

No,my truck didn't have the steering wheel controls. There are connections on the Kenwood harness for them though. I installed a Pioneer touchscreen in my wife's Maxima a while back and was able to utilize the factory steering wheel controls after I purchased an adapter from PAC. It works well. I imagine the Tundra would be similar.

Ive been thinking about getting this for the past 3 weeks....it was between this and the avic, no HD...but the avic you have to take the navi disc out to listen to cd or play dvd.
I think im pulling the trigger on this too!!
Did you get the bluetooth adapter?
NICE INSTALL MAN!! LOOKS VERY CLEAN!!
Hey also where did you install your bazooka tube at?

Thanks RC! No, I did not get the bluetooth so I cannot speak to it. I've had the old Bazooka for years. It is just in the floor, behind the passenger seat. We don't have kids, so didn't really use the space.
I also looked at the Avic, but went with this due to the hard drive, and Garmin's reputation. I'm new at the Nav stuff and can't compare it to anything else, but I'm shocked with it's accuracy. And on this one, there is no speed sensor hookup. I simply placed the GPS antenna on the HVAC duct (under the dash) and it works great. Overall it was a super easy install.
Oh, and the ipod interface is lightning fast!

Cool, thanks for the response. Wow so you didnt even have to mount the navigation antenna on the roof...thats a pretty good unit!!
I have a old little 3-4" garmin that mounts to my windshield and I like the fact its very easy to use and I noticed from your pictures and other pictures the interface looks exactly like my current garmin, so it should be no problem switching over.
With the USB, did it have like a long USB extension coming off of the Kenwood cables in the back? I have yet to find a picture showing that USB cable...I dont have a ipod so I will have to use my thumb drive to load my mp3s.

The owner's manual instructs you to mount the antenna on top of the dash, but from reading numerous board posts, I decided to try it underneath. It always has maximum signal strength. Glass and plastic have no effect on it, but don't mount it under anything metal. It comes with a cool little metal sticker, which the antenna sticks to magnetically like an XM antenna.
As for the USB, yes it does have a cable which plugs into the back. I honestly don't remember how long it was though. Mine is run into the glovebox, with maybe another foot or two to spare.

I put the AVIC Z3 in my 2000 Tundra. Perfect fit, no extras needed. I have the bluetooth and backup camera, all work great. Great display, touchscreen, etc.
I LOVE it! Great thing about the AVIC Hard drive units is that they automatically rip inserted music CDs to the hard drive, so my most played CDs are loaded, indexed, and ready to go. I only have about 15 CDs loaded, and still have used only about 12% of the available space!
thats a pretty cool system but I dont want to spend that much on a navi, I have a Acura MDX w/ navi and I hardly use it. The only reason Im getting the 5120 is because theres only about a $150 difference between the navi and non navi system and I can get the navi for around $500-$600 w/ bluetooth adapter.
Plus I like how the kenwood has the cd slot on top, i never liked those flip out type units, if the motor goes out your s.o.l.!!
I do like the avic navi voice though, it sounds very real!
