I think my 2006 Tundra is toast at only 19,000km. First exessive oil consumption, now last night when I picked up my daughter from the movie it smoke a lot. I am embarass at stop lights. I will be calling the dealer tommorow to shcedule a check-up, if or when they fix this truck is it worthy to keep it or just trade it with a newer model? I am thinking of trading and buying accross the boarder. If this is the route to go will anyone recommend a good dealership accross from Peace Arch or Pacific Hiway?
That should be covered under warranty unless your usage has caused something catastrophic to happen to the engine, i.e. hitting something underneath etc.
I know it is under warranty, but this is the first time that my vehicle that I purchased brand new have this problem. I believe that even they will fix it it may come back again. I am thinking of blown head gasket, and no I did not abused my truck, I bought it in 2007 and I do not use it too much. The reason I bought it is my Previa cannot pull my 18 1/2 feet boat. So mainly that is what I use it for.
Well if you feel it will be an issue later on after the fix for your peace of mind trade the truck in on a new model. Most tundra's are great truck and rarely are lemons are come off the line bad but find out what it is first.
Sounds like a manufacturing defect from day one so probably nothing you could have done about it. Let them figure it out and worry about tossing it aside later. You clearly don't use the vehicle much so it should last you a very long time. Seems like a waste of money to trade it.
How many miles were on it when you bought it? A new 2006 model purchased in 2007 was sitting around the dealer lot a very long time.
If I can remember it correctly 10 klm. It is new and it is the only 1 left so They gave me a deal. I drove it coast to coast when I left it was around 300km. and when I get back I have 8000 km.

Well, probably not the best break-in on a vehicle. Probably had a TON of cold-starts on the motor because they tend to move them around the lots and if it wasn't run enough it could have fuel contamination. Then you get on the road for 8,000km. If you set the cruise and run it from coast to coast I can imagine the rings not being broken in quite right. How much oil did it burn on that trip? How much has it been burning since?
I did not drive more than 80km/hr. on the first 5,000 km. but before we left I added around 1/2 liter because I noticed it is a little bit low. I thought new vehicles use a little bit oil and that is normal. I guess it was a bad one from the beginning. I really do not trust the mechanics on new vehicles. It is always better to stick to a good vehicle. I keep my vehicles as long as they run that is why I am very careful with them. I guess this time I just got unlucky. I will get this fixed but one way or the other I will get rid of it and buy a new one. Now - which one I will trust? My confidence with Toyota was shaken.
Your look for a better truck will only bring you back to Toyota, your problems seem to be coming from the Dealerships from what i read!
Make them make it rite! 1. The fix it 2. Open a claim with Toyota Corporate and get some help to make them fix it! Good Luck with either!
I called Toyota Canada and I was provided with a case number. The problem: They only rely on the dealership assestment of the vehicle so they said if I am not happy with the dealer I can go take it to the other dealership which is a way farther. This is really becoming a nightmare. Anyway I setup an appointment on Wednesday with my dealer and hopefully they can fix it on the same day. They do not have courtesy car either and I have to rent one.
I've never had a good Toyota dealer. But I'd think you'd be used to that since you've owned quite a few. I know going in that it's going to suck if I get one that's troublesome. So far, hasn't happened although the balljoint recall was a huge PITA. If it's actual an internal engine problem, it will take awhile. You'll probably want to get a ride somewhere and drive your other vehicle. You obviously don't drive much!!
Well I called my friend and ask him to see the smoke and drove my truck to his house and he said it looks normal because our weather is cold. We live here in BC and it is very humid and now it is freezing. So I will still take it in and see what the tech will say. The oil level is between the 2 dots so maybe I will ask them to top it up and make a note.
