I got 2.5" on the highest setting, I'd say it is right on

SurfBum,
I assume the pictures of your truck in your album are after the Bilsteins? I really like the way your truck sits in those pictures. I saw in your earlier post that you did a 1.5" rear lift by AAL. You got me thinking that might be the way to go...

Thanks,

yep those are post 5100s. the AAL rides smooth as silk and increases payload. I went with Wheelers Off Road brand. They make their leafs longer than most.

I know you have had 5100s on for a while. Any long term effects with the cv joints and boots? Ball joint issues?

Hey TundraSurfBum, just one quick question....

I noticed in your signature that you have 5100s on both front and rear. And you have an 1.5" aal also. In all of the Bilstein specs it says that the 5100 rear shock accommodates a 0" to 1" lift. Does your 1.5" of lift effect the rear shock at all.

Thank you for your time.

I have 5100s in the back and a 1.5" aal. If you run blocks or and AAL with stock shocks you will lose a lot of the shock travel

We'll today, I jumped in with the Bilstein 5100 adjustables on the 3rd setting up front and 5100's in the back. Man, they came out perfect. Like many have stated, ride quality didn't suffer, handling improved and they are able to plant the tires firmly to the road.
Up front, they provided me with a 1.5" lift and keep the truck with slight forward rake, which is exactly what I would aiming for.

Thanks for all ya'll input...

Question Re: Bilstein 5100 - which setting should I choose

Searched this thread for model #'s (maybe just 5100 is enough) for my 2005 DC 2WD. Could not find any.
So, you guys in the know, would the BE5-6929-H0 for the front, and the BE5-A014-H5 for the rear be correct?
Can't even think about doing myself, so approximately what would/should the labor hours be to install?

Thanks!

Hey obssc,
Yes, you have the correct part numbers. Mine's an 04 DC, and those are the ones I purchased - arrived today. Can't wait to get them on. Going to do the rears myself - have a buddy with a spring compressor who can help me with the fronts.

You might give a shout out here looking for anyone who may have experience with a reputable shop in your area who can do the install for you. Don't have a clue as to what the labor cost should be, but you DO want to do some research on who you have install them. Dealer? No, in my opinion. 4-wheel Parts? I've heard no from members here. Ask around. Go to Lowes or Home Depot, hang-out, and if you see someone with a nice (repeat, nice) lifted truck, flag 'em down, compliment their truck, and ask them where they got their lift work done and what their experience was like.

Post pics on here once it is done!
Tom

install time would be about 2-4 hours with a friend. I give a big window because something always goes wrong or you cant find that ONE size socket when you need it.
Having another set of hands is HUGE for getting the spring shock assembly back in place.
When I did mine i took everything out, took the spring to a shop and let them compress them onto the 5100. had a beer while i waited then put them back in. If everything goes smooth and you don't have to fight with stuck bolts you could be done in under 2 hours.
