Well, looks like the spring perch was installed upside down....back to the shop.
How does that saying go, "Not enough time to do it right, but plenty of time to do it over".

I have 05 dc 4wd with adjustable Bilstein set to the fourth level and aal in the rear to compensate for the weight of a rear camper shell. It all leveled out.

Question?? Can I upgrade to 285's with an aftermarket 16" rim (4.5 back space) without it rubbing? If so how bad? I don't mind removing mud flaps. Thanks

Pissed.
one of my worst fears of these 5100's. but it was not a defect, it was just simply installed wrong. i'm surprised it held that long. my buddy did his and the snap ring gave as soon as there was pressure on them on the sompressor, when he had the perches upside down. had mines for over 1k now with a 300 road trip and i am impressed, best 160 bucks i spent on the truck so far.

I did quite a bit of reading about the 5100s and that clip. After researching and finding that those type of clips are used to support massive amounts of weight I felt OK about it. Plus I don't think Bilstein would want to be selling something that would lead to failure. Not too good for business.

Seems like the install is what leads to problems with these shocks, bummer.

I have about 1000 miles on mine and really like them. I did my own installation and have them currently set to the middle notch and will be resetting to the top notch and doing the AAL, diff drop, and CV boot mod. Maybe this week.

I like the looks of IntegraGSR's ride. What size tire are you running? I couldn't see any of the pictures in your photo album.

I am really looking forward to putting this project together. It will be sort of half-assed, because the tires won't be on until the end of the month. My brother owns a car dealership in the Philly area, and gets a deal on tirerack.com. So a short drive down there will save me about the cost of one of the tires.

I just read this forum and had a quick question, I have a 2006 dc 4x4 limited, I am considering adding 5100's to the front, using the 4th notch to level out the truck. I wasn't going to do anything to the rear, however, I wanted to get new tires 285/70/17's bfg at's. Has anyone done this and if so did they have any issues with tire's rubbing?

Also what cv clamp fix are you all talking about?

Go for the top notch in the front, and get the 1" spacer/ Add a block if you want it to be level. Otherwise, you'll just be in the ballpark. Rear 1 inch Block Kit (includes U-bolts) - Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits

You should also do the front differential drop. Easy to do, and will help preserve you CV joints. Front Differential Drop Kit - Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits

You will also need wheel spacers to get enough tire clearance from the UCA (upper control arm) in the front. Most people are running 1.25" spacers from Toyota Hub Centric Wheel Spacer Kit
I found 1.5" spacers on ebay for $100 less. I still have rubbing on the front mudflap, even after trimming most of it away. It only rubs when I make a downhill turn and have the wheel to almost full lock....as when turning into my driveway.

You will also need to do the CV Boot modification. Easiest one of the bunch. Home Depot sells hose clamps, and I used two 2" clamps per inner CV boot. I just clamped them over the existing clamps, and am now longer slinging grease.

Good luck, and if you have trouble getting the nut to get enough threads on the front strut when you are re-mounting it, it means that you have the spring perch upside down. Trust me, do one side at a time, so you can see how the spring mounts on the old strut. Good luck!

What happened to watchdog? Where are those pics? That is exactly what I am planning for my '06 Limited DC 4x2, and would love to see pics of results.

Where is the best place (price wise) to order 5100's? Can someone verify the front part # F4-BE5-6929-HO?

thanks for the great info! I did have a follow up question, if I do spacers in the front should I also do spacers in the back to even things out?

Has anyone readjusted thier 5100's after a few years later? I've had mine on for at least 4 years and I believe they were raised around 1.5" on the coil. Since it's been a few years, the front has dipped a little, actually the front drivers side is slightly lower then the front passengers, which both are lower than the rears. Do you think it would be safe to crank up another .5" on the coil to balance the vehicle? The only thing I'm worried about is adding more pressure to the axel, etc., causing it to snap.
