hi true dual exhaust will make you loose power.
this is what i have heard time & time again from this web site.
so i went with a cat back with dual tailpipes.
now who's going to know?
looks like dual exhaust out the back.
but if you want true dual go for it.
who knows the real results, since you have a 05 VVTI v8.
the posts from from way back when they had 245hp, & around 180ish to the rear wheel's.
or a calf had 240HP,minus 5hp for the extra cat.
so they might have a rearwheel of 175HP

ive had pretty much everything under the sun, and from my seat of pants/fuel bill analysis, i would say you will loose if you leave stock form. That being said however, my current getup that ive probably had the longest is a strait pipe setup of similar diameter from the back of the cat unbolt. Souns just as nice as duals, and costs a lot less. Make sure you get a resonable size tip for sound
i have the gibson side with the two pipes out the side been on since 2003 i like it

Magnaflow 15809, single in/out, sounds grrrreat and I've not noticed any loss. Next month the DT shorties go on and then my URD Maf Cal gets recal'd. Should be a pretty nice little set-up.

I would stay with a single muffler set up with these size engines. Also go with a magnaflow or gibson exhaust with factory size pipe if you don't want to loose power. The resonator holds back alot of sound to. If you cut her she will be louder with a better tone but it will give you a little cab drone. Personally, I don't have a problem with it but some do...

heres mine..sorry the pics are dark but its a 3.5 inch single muffler, dual exit 45* butter cut..
im going to get headers and see how loud it is..if its not loud enough, im gonna do a muffler delete. right now its pretty quiet and drone at 60..65+ is quiet.

Yah, all my setups have been in the HEY LOOK AT ME camp, but im pretty sure the low tone TRD setups are probably your best bet, Ive just never had the mental ability to drop 700 bucks to lower my tone just a lil bit
Ya, I am trying to find a good sounding setup that sounds good but without all the noise in the cab. Looks like the concensus is a single in/dual out setup. I'm probably going to dump it right behind rear axle, I think it just looks cleaner in my oppinion.

I simply swapped out my muffler for a Flowmaster super 44 (single in/single out). Kept the stock piping and welded on a 3.5" tip. I think it sounds awesome! check out my albums for pics.

Hey to all I have posted this several times...I've owned two Tundras; 2000 2wd (JBA's, K&N, sway bar, dual exhaust) and now a 2005 4wd DC (K&N and duals). If you are going with just muffler try a Dyno Max Super Turbo from Summit Racing (muffler is 21" long, 9" wide and 4" thick) Nice rumble, no inside resonance. Or you can go the way I have twice. Buy a 2" dual in/dual out catalytic converter from JC Whitney ($130), put this in place of the "Y" pipe, then run 2" pipe to the muffler(s) ($65 each) mentioned earlier and run where you want it. On my 2000 it was duals to one side and on the 05 it is a tip on each side. If you order the mufflers and get a good shop to do it for you, depending on location maybe $500ish for the whole set up.....It works for me and sounds great.....good luck, CSM-H
PS: there are many threads about going too large with the pipe diameter for this engine (4.7 basically a 283) smaller is better....
i also have the TuRD Dual Exhaust...it sounds great. I do plan on deleting the resonators and welding in a new HIGH FLOW CAT. it'll give a bit more flow and be a bit louder
I have posted this before, but, I'll throw it backout there for the new guys.
Running AEM intake, TRD headers, custom Y, no resonator, single in/dual out muffer. Using polished tips straight out the back. System is all SS. A little loud, maybe, but, it sounds right and I like the setup. Bottom end still strong, pulls nicely in high RPM ranges.
I do have an engine pic and exhaust exit pic in my gallery.
