Default Shitfter / transmission issue

Truck: 2002 Tundra V8 116k miles Automatic transmission
Problem: Very difficult to shift from Park to Reverse, Reverse to Drive, Drive to Park, etc.

Transmission fluid level correct and condition good. Visual inspection of transmission found no leaks, everything dry as a bone. Shift cable on side of transmission (driver's side) clean and free of anything abnormal. No check engine light.

This problem came out of nowhere. I was driving on a slight downhill, around 25mph. Heard and felt a bang/shudder, which seemed to kick the brake pedal back at me. After that it was normal. Didnt run anything over, it was broad daylight. So shortly after the bang/shudder, I pulled into park and noticed, for the first time ever (I put all 116K miles on it) that it was difficult to put in Park, and same thing for going from Park to Drive or Reverse. Took it straight home and when I parked the next time the problem was worse. Havent started it since. My Haynes Manual doesnt really address the issue.

Any help is appreciated.

Best regards,

Wes

Default Re: Shitfter / transmission issue

Even if the shift cable at the transmission looke clean as mine did. The cable connector at the trans. was ruted to the arm it was mounted on. If you get under the truck ( make sure the emerg brake is on) remmove the clip that hods the cable to the trans. arm. Now see if the shift lever moves freely. If it does the poblem is in the tranny if not the problem is the cable end at the tranny.
