Hey boys,
I'm over here in an "undisclosed location" in South West Asia where it's hotter than hell and I got to tell you I'm surrounded by toyota hiluxes. These things are awesome! Way better than the tacoma and built like a brick poop house. I'd trade my tundra for one in a heart beat. American import and epa laws are keeping us from having the best truck in the world! Oh well I'll just drool and watch.
Take care,
GATR

And Toyota offers the 2009 in a 3.0L 171hp (317ft/lbs of torque) 4-cyl 4X4 Diesel w/ 5-spd AT that can tow 5,000lbs that ALSO gets 35-40mpg and 300,000 miles of engine life. It also has AI (artificial intelligence) incorporated into the ECU so it senses gradients, driver input, driver style, etc. WAY better than the traditional Toyota ECU. And you people who live in the colder areas will like the "Cold Area Package" which incorporates a dual battery setup, high-output alternator, and a secondary heater ducting system to the passenger cab. A LSD is standard. Very neat...
Now you see why Ford and GM have done everything they can to keep it from our shores.
I have heard of people buying them in Mex/Central America and driving them in...

About the only way you could license one of those Hi-Lux's is to buy one in Mexico, bring it across, and then pull the front clip, cab and box off a Taco and swap them. We have no emissions laws here abouts. As long as the truck showed a clean Taco VIN, you'd never have to worry about being legal. It's probably been done. Anyone with a brain isn't going to be posting it all over the net. The problem is, it'd be a pain in the arse any time you needed parts. You'd probably have to order fuel filters, etc from Australia or something. I also doubt GM has anything to do with keeping them out of the country. VW has some nice diesels on the US market. If any of the worthless big 3 had enough stroke to keep Toyota diesels out, things would be in litigation and press stories would be splattered everywhere...
This is the Land Cruiser model I'd like, the "Troop Carrier Workmate"! It's a turbocharged DOHC V8 Direct-Injection Diesel w/Intercooler. HOORAHHHH!!!
You have excellent taste duffy. I've always wanted a 'Cruiser but this diesel combination would push me over the edge. Heck, I'd even take the right hand drive version and adopt an Aussie lilt.
Toyota fans are getting short changed in the states.
