No its not stainless, but SS would run me around $300 more. I can't really justify considering this is not a daily driver anymore.
Also I've been meaning to bug JBToy and see exactly what he has done with his pipes. It appears he has them coated or painted. I'm curious about this.
I hear you on the costs. You have to draw lines somewhere. Are you stuck on the the pipes split out each side? There are single out or double out options (the same side) that are SS or aluminized in the price range... just not Flowmaster.
Just suggestions because if it were me and I had dealt with all that rust (and one day it might be) I would go for something coated or one of the above mentioned metals.
Any way you go that work is going to pay off and you will be having fun driving your Tundra soon. Woohoo!!

Alright Highlevel. The wife is very displeased with you. You got me spending more money. As tight as the budget is I would much prefer SS. I spent some time looking around and making phone calls and found exactly what I think is right for me. I was really hoping for split side tips. The Gibson kit you linked to, well, I've already been through one of those. Rotted out in 3 years. Good sound though. I have always wanted a Borla dual kit but didn't want to shell out $750-$800. I happened across Racepages.com which had the Borla B2514852 kit for $554.77. All SS, million mile warranty and my split side tips. Sweet, its on order. Im stoked because that current stock exhaust doesn't look right now that everything else is all cleaned up. I almost hate to put the bed back on.

Sorry you may really have to take the brunt of that heat...
I was going to suggest that setup but thought it was out of the question (price range). I saw it for $750.00 or so. Sounds like you found a sweet deal!
Wow, Gibson not good ay?
I am with you... I would not want to put the bed back on until it was all clean... that exhaust is the one remaining piece. You know when all is said and done you will be soooo happy because you won't have to think about any of that stuff for a long while. Probably just some maintenance for some undercoating and you will be good for many years.
I would be interested in hearing that sound. I would love to change out my exhaust to something that has good flow to increase HP, get longevity and improve the sound slightly. Don't want anything too loud, just slightly aggressive when you move. I have heard loud and am not impressed, although there was a time.

The Borla should have a nice deep tone but I am with you. I watched a few vids on the flowmaster on youtube and it sounded like too much. Its a Tundra, not a flame shooting hot rod. The Borla has a great rep and I think I should be happy with it!
Highlevel, I will definately get some videos with good sound posted up when I get it installed. I forgot to mention, the same Borla kit except tips heading out the back was $200 more. Curious

Well, if the one you ordered drops out behind the wheels then the one going out the back end would have more piping/angles and possibly brackets... I would think that is why the extra cost. Maybe they have been sitting on the one you purchased for a while and want to move it out.
But like I stated earlier I don't know much about exhaust systems.
I like your choice. Not sure which way I will go. Would love to hear it when you post. Thanks!

Here you go Highlevel, Borla system all installed. Unfortunately I still have a few things to do before I can take her out but I'm hoping to have the bed back on tomorrow. A few minor things and I have to fab up the bracket for the proportional valve. This Borla is a thing of beauty.
now put some undercoating on the gas tank, and paint the drive shaft. everything will look GREATT

The Borla's do sound good. I had them on my last Tundra and was very pleased, plus they look good under under there. Lets hear a sound clip I forgot how they sound.

The last pic shows the necessary install tool.
Good one on that last picture! Install tool... HAHAHA I can't handle any of that stuff any more but I am glad some people can. Been over 10 years clean and sober for me. Enjoy!
Impressive! I want one! I will need to hear that. I agree with 2000tundra, maybe paint that drive shaft and do something with the fuel tank and you will be able to eat off that underbody. not that anyone would...
Nice work there Scorp!
Can't wait to hear how she drives as well.

Rob, you must be in the trades. The bed slide is perfect for getting at your tools. I did loose some payload with the deavers so I am curious about your air ride system. Any chance you can throw up some pics and give me an idea of the overall system and how it functions?

Hey Scorp,
Yes, been in the trades for just over 30 years and just now installing a bed slide. It was something I thought about doing 10 or so years ago and never did. Feeling my age some now so I decided it would be well worth the price. I love the thing. I did the top with plywood so that I could modify and build onto it as needed.
I just loaded some pictures up in my albums title Air Lift. I really like the system. I went with Air Lift because they have a lifetime warranty on the bags, Firestone offers two years. You can keep the price down by just installing the air bags and then filling them as needed with any compressor, even a little tire inflator will work fine. I think they are still around $200.00. Seeing what you are working on you could install them way easily.
If you are like me and the load/weight changes pretty regularly then the compressor might be the way to go because it is really convenient.
Each time I have installed them (prior to my current truck) I installed the mini compressor "Air Ride Control" that only inflates the bags. I think that one is about $150.00 or so. I always wanted to figure out a way to make one of those work with some type of on board air but never took the time. Probably just as well because the low end compressors don't have a very high duty rating, you know they are not made to fill up tires etc. This time around I went with the Quick Shot (spendy... $400.00 +) but you have to be careful because the Quick Shot throws air in there pretty fast and can go up to almost 200 PSI. The bags are rated for 100 PSI so you don't want to over fill them. The tank holds the air and you just push the lever button up and the bag fills, you push it down and it lets out air. I believe the Quick Shot was made for people who like to "slam" their rides. Not into any of that. I ran a regular 1/4" NPT fitting out on the back of my truck under the bumper so I can hook up an air line for any of my air hoses.
The compressor and gauges are what take most of the time to install. They come with a bracket that you can mount somewhere but I did not like it so I went the custom route. It was a total pain to bring in 3 air tubes and wire to the location I chose. Not such easy access because behind that little spot where my gauges are mounted is part of the vehicle air bag wiring system.
I mounted the compressor under the truck because I could not find a place that I liked under the hood, that was my first choice. Hopefully I won't regret placement on that one.
They do make a newer system that is wireless, way easy to install. I can't remember exactly why I chose not to use that one... I think it was limited because on board air was not an option with that system unless you modified it.
If you have any other questions etc... just ask.
Think I am going out to do my AAL today but not sure I can muster the energy. Been a long couple of weeks and a rest day sure does sound good.

Bed is back on, here is some pics showing the ride height. I'm glad I went with 2" up in the back instead of just the typical 1". I like still having some rake.
Also, I meant to post this the other day. This vid was taken with a little camera so the sound quality is not that great. I am very happy with the Borla sound. It is not nearly as loud as the Gibson was but it has a nice deep growl. I have only revved it in the driveway, it should sound completely different under a loud. I'll find a hill to climb.
looks and sounds great. did you drive it yet?! hows the ride if you did?
