Default pedal is dead for a split second

I have noticed that my truck accelerates with a slight delay.
It feels like a carburetor with a bad accelerator pump. The pedal is dead for a split second. When I hit it quickly to full throttle or half throttle or quarter throttle, it sounds like an exhale then the rpms climb.
ex: sthhhhhvvrrroooooooooommmmm! Tough to put in words. It has the sound of a carburetor with no air cleaner, and you dump the throttle linkage on the side and you hear the initial burst of air get sucked into it. Only I hear it from in the cab and I have no carburetor.
Since we don't have carburetors, what else would make such a feeling and sound?
Once it "exhales" it takes off like a bat out a hell. It is just half dead for a second.

Go through the steps:

1. Clean MAF Sensor
2. Clean throttle body and throttle plate
3. Clean/replace air filter
4. Check/clean/lube throttle cable return spring
5. Check for loose/damaged vacuum lines
6. Clean PCV valve

That "sucking sound" is, in my experience, just a sonic characteristic of the K&N filter.

Report back with results after the above.

I would deff do these first. I have the same year and mine is instant throttle responce. I have to act like I have an egg under the pedal it's that touchy. The tundra's atleast the 04's not sure about the earlier ones. They have no throttle cable. It's all electronic.

Give it a good cleaning and see if that helps.

You are correct! Sorry, I misspoke. Check/clean the throttle plate spring!

I went down the list and some things are done every oil change, the one thing I did was clean the throttle body and plate - that made a big difference, thanks.
Now it is back to normal - how often do you clean the throttle body and plate?

I had a similar problem. Turned out to be my cold air intake. I removed it and when back to stock with a drop in filter. Runs amazing!

Drive by wire systems always have a noticeable delay in them....not sure if that's what you're thinking of tho.
