Default Flowmaster 40 and 18 inch Magnaflow comparison with videos

Well I know this topic has been covered but with as many people that have done it there aren't many videos out there of our trucks with after market mufflers. Also this will give anyone else an idea of what the truck sounds like before they decide.

SO, I had a Flowmaster 40 series which is this part 40 Series 3.00"/2.50" C/DUAL [430402] : Flowmaster Inc. Exhaust Shop, Love That Sound! , and I had that on my truck for about 6 months.

But I wanted something that didn't sound so raspy when the truck was above 2500 RPMs. So the reason I decided to go with the 18 inch Magnaflow MagnaFlow Performance Exhaust Part #12278 was because is has more of a "throaty" sound, and a just better overall sound. I am very happy with the Magnaflow now. Enjoy!

ah personally, i think you should have went with the 14 inch. the 18 sounds great, but just a little too quiet. those 4 inches make a huge difference.

Nice! That sounds good. I have always been a fan of Magnaflow. Here's my brothers with the 14inch sounds a little louder but not much.

I think the 18" sounds great, the flow sounds similar to my old '90 chevy with a flow on it, but cleaner.

I my order the 14" for my CJ with an AMC 360, but everyday driving, the 18" is better.

btw, nice vids.

looks like the flow made more power. You didn't break the tire loose with the magnaflow.

Hahaha, well I forgot to say that I now have an LSD and some better tires. So that kinda helps with take off now. I couldn't really tell the difference power-wise between the two.

Thanks for the links and comparison. Made my decision to go with the magnaflow. Now to chose the 14 or 18?

Well like others have said, the 14 inch is louder versus the 18, but I have gotten over the overly loud muffler point so, I was just going for a good exhaust note instead of loudness. It just depends on personal preference.

I just had an 18" single in/out installed 2 weeks ago and it is just right for a 40 year old geezer like myself. It took a few hundred miles to really come alive but I noticed today it was really starting to sound alot louder. Just a nice deep tone that's not obnoxious in the cab. I left the resonator on for now to see how she sounds after break in.

I had a 14" when I owned a POS Ford and it was a bit too much in the cab with the family so I wanted it a little quiter this time.

Thanks, may just go with the 18. sounds like they liven up after broken in. and I dont want it to be too annoying on a long trip.

You should run true duals and remove the resonator that is if you want it loud.

I had magnaflows and I think that they had more of a Crackle sound.

Go 14" mufflers with 2.25 diameter piping
