So, had my 2000 Tundra in for timing belt. Since they were in there and replacing some coolant anyways, I went ahead and had them do a flush of the coolant system. Pretty straight forward one would think. Get my rig home, pop the hood, and clear as day without even opening the coolant reservoir I could tell that Toyota Red coolant was NOT used, yellow was. I called the service manager and told him that I understand Toyota Red is supposed to be used unless some new manual was out there or the coolant changed. He came back on the line saying a mistake was made and they will re-flush and fill properly. Now, I know mistakes can happen, but I would have expected with with a Quickie Mart, not a dealership. Anyway, should I request anything special to be done other than flushing it really well and a little longer than normal. It would have had maybe 5 miles total put on it with the incorrect coolant. Appt is scheduled for this coming Tuesday. I am also thinking about asking for a refund of my money for the flush not because they didn't fix their own mistake, but for my time of having to take it in again, and pick it up, having to take a hour off of work. What are your thoughts?
Definitely needs to be some compensation for the second trip (time and inconvenience) as well as something in writing as to why they second visit was necessary. If anything goes wrong in that department down the line then you have some documentation and possible recourse.

Mistakes happen everywhere... it is how people handle the situation afterward that tells us where their integrity lies.
They may not give you a refund but it seems fine for you to ask. If they are reluctant, then ask for some discounts on other services (if you want to continue with them) like a few free oil changes or something like that, and like Highway said "get it in writing". I have had pretty good results in the past, not always. You do have some leverage and if they want to keep you as a customer they should make sure you are completely satisfied.
Asking for a longer flush is totally within reason.

I have a 2002 Tundra with 88,400 miles on it. I replaced the factory red/ factory expensive coolant ($20+gal) at 30,000 miles with Preston ($9/gal), it is compatible with all types and have had ZERO issues. If Preston antifreeze caused problems with seals/ gaskets in any vehicle then they would not be in business very long and would have law suits after law suits paying for all the repairs. I have read in this forum of water pumps starting to go at less than 100,000 miles with the factory red and it is suppose to prevent wear?......not sold. I am replacing my water pump within the month and I will let everyone know what I find.

My service guy told me that Toyota pink was for 2003+ current tundras.
2000-2002 tundras take toyota red. I bought a gallon of toyota red since my radiator is leaking to hold the truck over until my new radiator comes in. I paid $25 for this coolant. It looks like coolaide but thicker. Its does stain clothes as I found out.

Well I have been running Preston (yellow) in my 2000 for the last 4 years for sure, maybe longer.

I didn't think there was a Toyota yellow. Toyota Red is what you want to use, but you have to mix it 50/50 with water. It is not pre-mixed. Your vehicle should be flushed to get out alll that yellow stuff they put in there (engine block). Good luck.
hi,
don't panic!
they will do it over for you.
it's just funny that they took out red/pink antifreeze,
& put back in a totally different color/type.
all they need to do is drain, flush, with truck running,
with water flowing through the radiator,
so all of the antifreeze is removed.
until all they see is water. shut off vehicle,
finish the drain so it's enpty, close the drain plug.
and filler up.
when filled , start the vehicle it will drop when the thermastat opens than refill,
also check the over flow tank.
good luck,
gorilla
So took my truck in today to have the coolant corrected from the prior mistake, I get home and look under the hood and they used Toyota Pink instead of Toyota Red. Anyone know if there is a difference between the two? My manual says to use the Red, it is a 2000 and was built before the development of the Toyota Pink. Are these two compatible? Thought I would ask here before calling the service department again.

I believe that the red is the coolant concentrated...you need to mix it with water. The pink has been mixed. Of course I could be completely wrong.
