If you are talking about the garage door opener holder (thats all my truck has, no sunglass holder), then I have put some thought into it. I have been too busy to tackle it, but my Garmin 255w fits perfectly up there. I was going to take the hinge apart and see if there was a way to let it swing down lower because it kind of aims up as it is. Then I was going to cut down the ball mount, glue/screw it to the cover, and run a power cable up the pillar. That way it would be hidden if you wanted it to be. As I said, This is one of many things on my list, and if I ever get around to it I will post to show how it came out.

hi post a few picures of your interior. most gps 's are square. so it would have to be custom cut, and you would have to make a special peice to cover the area cut. but you would be looking straight up. it might be hard to see. unless when you open the sunglass holder, the GPS will be in there.
i would find a friend that has 1 or maybe a few friends have different type's. that stick to the windshield.
& try to place it in there, so you can see how it fit's, & what you need to do. it would be sweet. hidden away, but flip the switch and down comes the GPS. all wires hidden away.
i totally understand what you mean. my fiend has a garmin. i'm going to ask her today to see it, and see what it look's like in that space for you. i'll be back. i am going to see if she is up now.
but i'm sure cutting is a must.
i wish i knew how to take pictures and cut & paste. so you would see it.
i wonder if there is a space on your dash like i did for my scangauge2. i put it on top of my steering column. it look's great there. that might be a good option for you, no cutting. plug & play.
good luck, i shall return,
edit:
i tried garmin. will not fit. if you notice the center, when opened, it has about 2"'s of room. i suggest a center console location ,or make a custom bracket wrapped in leather, cloth ,etc to match interior. where you can mount it directly to syn glass space without opening it up.
unless you decide to remove the whole sunglass case, which will open up a large space. and again make a mounting bracket of some kind. if it is done this way you will have alot of room. even to make a swivel bracket for the GPS.
again good luck

Reason: checked into it
Yea, it would fold down for use. There would have to be some custom fitting for it to fit of course, possibly cutting out the sunglass holder & adjusting the hinge so it would fold back more for easy viewing--just a thought.

mine would not fit their either but for 2.99 at The PILOT i use a Java Mug which is quiet usefull and can be moved from one truck/car to another. I do not like it up in the window, too much of a chance i spend more time looking at it instead of the moron in the next lane multi tasking and trying to hit me! The Garmins can be tuned to your FM truck radio really easy!
hi nice spot, hidden away, easy to read.
you usually don't look at it all the time, it's a helper,
you could always pull over and do a search.
thats why i like my eclipes build in the audio unit.
mine has a audio & chime. it talk's to you. it's really cool.
even if you make a mistake ,it tell's you to turn around.
maybe they all do that.
our tundra's really don't have alot of room for aftermarket item's.
even sub's, are a issue, if you really want to thump.
but many here have done some really cool thing's.
you can get some really great idea's from tundra owner's.
that's why we bought a tundra in the 1st place!
good luck,
gorilla

How long have you used this setup? It seems like it would be inconvenient and distracting to look down to see the screen. What is your take?
I'm real interested in getting a GPS for the Tundra. But I have a question: doesn't the unit need to be located where it has a view of the sky? The sunglasses area would be great - but the GPS would have to receive thru the steel roof of the truck !?!

I've only lost signal when I was in downtown San Francisco (and we were driving a convertible with the top down). The Tom Tom I was using and my friend's Sony, both lost signal there. It might have been due to the buildings, because we used them both in the mountains without a problem.
I suppose the point is, only heavy concrete and steel seem to block signal.

I have mine mounted with the suction cup mounted under my mirror , but i use the sunglass holder to hide the power cable, I got the power from the map lights. The wire is exposed only 8 inches or so.I had to drill a little hole on the roof liner to get the wire through.
Where mine is located it is pretty much the same as looking at the clock, like gorilla said your not staring at it to drive your only looking once in a while and it talks so not even looking down necessarily.
I didn't want mine in the window because i hate things blocking my view, well my fuzzy dice is one thing but the GPS as small as they are still annoyed me.
I also didn't wanna have to take it down and put on when going out of truck this way i just close the lid on console and away i go....
Mine never loses signal...so far :P only been up to phoenix and San Manuel so no big trips but point being it works fine in the area its in now.
The sunglass thing seems not as bad as i first thought thinking about how often i look at it.

same here. only time that i have ever lost any signal is when i go to SF. has to be the buildings. i'm sure if i went to downtown LA or something it will do the same.
