Default Help with Rostra heated seat kit install

I've been lurking here for a few weeks but this is my first post, so go easy on me.
I recently purchased the Rostra seat heater kit for my '06 DC. I referenced the DIY writeup for seat heaters here on TS and had no problems with installing the heating elements in my seats. Now I'm ready to tap into the truck's wiring but discovered that my DC did not come pre wired for the factory heated seats. I'm at a loss as to how to run proper wiring to the center console to tap the controllers for both seats into. Can anyone supply me with the knowledge to perform this or is there an alternative way to properly wire these up? Any tips/help would be GREATLY appreciated.

For anyone who's interested, I figured out how to fix the problem. I tapped both seat heater switched power leads and grounds into the rear power outlet wires in the center console. I then tapped both constant power leads into the stereo HU constant power. Had to change the fuse stereo fuse from 7.5 to 30A for the additional power. Tested it and it works like a charm.

Thanks for the info. I just ordered this kit for my 06 DC so I'll be trying to install as soon as it arrives. Any other tips or suggestions that you may have to make the job go smoothly would be appreciated. Did you have leather of cloth seats? Mine are leather and I'm wondering if there is any difference in getting the seat apart as the guide I found was from cloth seat install.

Thanks

jpeepers,

I have the cloth seats, so I can't really comment on the leather. The install is really easy, just kinda time consuming.

The hogrings are a pain , so I just used zip ties everywhere. You don't have to remove the entire lower seat cover. I just took out the first(from back to front) 2 hogrings on each side and then had my wife hold up the upholstery while I slid the element underneath.

I would suggest running your switch and controller wires for both seats after you get the first seat removed. The more room you have to stick your arm in the dash and console helps.

I ran and hooked up both switches/power leads after I finished installing the elements in the passenger seat and before I put it back in. Pulled the wires for the passenger side controller under the carpet, and left the drivers side wires in the console. Then removed the drivers seat, installed the heat elements, pulled the drivers seat controller wires through the carpet and plugged it all up.

Blew the 7.5A fuse for the stereo while I was testing the install. I replaced it with a 30A fuse and have not had any problems running both seat heaters, radio and rear power outlet all at the same time.

Good luck.

so you guys replaced a 7.5A fuse with a 30A one? Hopefully the wiring is capable of supporting the additional current. Otherwise you will be replacing a wiring harness in the future.

I installed mine last week. I ran a new power and gnd directly from the battery so I am not taping off anything in my harness.
Works pretty good. Keeps my buns toasty warm on those cold mornings!
