Default Fan Speed Control Knob Broken

I've looked around on the internet and cannot find anything that is helpful. I have a 2003 tundra and the fan control knob just broke off the other day. The plastic square piece behind the knob was cracked, I glued it back together, but am unable to secure it in place. When I put the knob back into place it still has a lot of play and comes straight off when pulled. Any idea of a fix? Can you just replace the knob or do you have to replace everything? I would appreciate any advice.

Are you talking about the square end of the knob, or the piece that actually sticks out of the dash? If it's just the knob, it's a very cheap Toyota dealer piece.

Its the square post on the backside of the knob. I believe I pretty much repaired the cracks, but I can't get it to fit back tight on the dash. If I can get a replacement part and it work that would be great, I'm just trying to make sure that it won't be loose like the current one. --Thanks

I would try a new knob first, since it's like a 7 dollar part. The knob on my Celica kept falling off and would feel stripped if I turned it. 5 bucks later, I was in business. If it's the stud like part that comes out of the dash, I would think that's a different animal. All three are connected in one big box-like part. I still don't think it would be that hard to replace, but it might be expensive. If that's the case, you might want to check the boneyard.

There is a little metal clip that holds tension on the post agaist the knob to keep it from falling off.

How small is it? That would be what I am missing. I looked around to see if I saw any additional pieces,--at least now I know somewhat what I'm looking for.

It's a small little metal piece that fits inside the square hole on the knob. When I took my knob off, it fell behind the bezel and I had to remove the dash to get it. I found it on the white box below the A/C controls on the back of the bezel, put it back in and works fine.

Same thing happened to my truck. I just went into the dealership and got a new one for like 10 bucks. It was worth it since I didnt have to mess with trying to afro-engineering it so it could work for a week then just break again.
but untill I got it I just switeched it with the temeture gauge ( red to blue haha ) so I could adjust the fan speed since It was always gonna be on the coldest setting durring the summer.

there is a small metal tab that sits in the channel that holds it onto the shaft. You are probably missing it. Your dealer can get if for you. I would get a whole new knob. I have already been through this.
