do you really find this stuff useful? It's my opinion that all of these
"snake oils" are rip offs and probably do more harm than good. Again only my .02 but I do wonder if ANYONE has any real world data that shows any improvement at all from any of these products. I have heard that the Lucas tranny stuff actually does work, but that is it. My father use to put Motor Medic in everything...Nothing lasted very long...lol...

I have started to notice a slight jerking/popping sensation when shifting between 1st-2nd and 2nd-3rd only at intermediate throttle. It is so light that my wife says she doesn't notice it, but I'm a little more sensitive to the quirks of my vehicle. This appears to be a fairly prevalent transmission condition/concern reported here. Several members have attested to the improvement(s) achieved by using this product. I figured I would give it a try. I don't think it can hurt, and if I can head off a $3,500 transmission bill, well...

Default Re: Auto-Rx on sale during October

Auto-Rx is the only additive that I have found over the last 40 years of driving and owning vehicles that does exactly what it says it will do. It is an ester based metal cleaner and seal cleaner/conditioner. That's all it is, plain and simple. It is not a solvent, so it's safe to use under all recommended applications.

Since starting to use this product 2 1/2 years ago, it has saved me thousands of dollars. It saved my 2000 Tundra tranny from an early grave at 120K miles. That's at least $3500 saved. It also stopped a tranfer case input shaft seal leak on my Tundra. That's another $1000 saved. It stopped a steering rack seal leak on my 2003 G35. That's at least another $1000 saved.

Those data points alone are good enough for me, but I also used it in the Tundra V-8 engine. I accidently pushed a PCV grommet through the valve cover while trying to replace it. This made me nervous, so I pulled the valve cover to retrieve it. What I discovered was a little catch can device that was holding the grommet in place under the cover. So there was no need to worry. But I also noticed that there was a reddish brown thin slime all over my valve train area. This was unexpected, since I was religious about doing 3K mile OCI's with synthetic oil. While doing the Auto-Rx clean and rince phases, I noticed the same reddish brown color to the oil when I changed it. I haven't had the valve cover off again since the Auto-Rx treatment, but I'm pretty sure it's clean under there now.

I really think that any Tundra owner should consider using this product first if they are noticing transmission abnormalities. And if not the first thing, the last thing before that dump a bunch of money into a rebuild or replacement tranny. My theory is that the shift valves are suseptible to deposit contamination, even with frequent servicing (which I did). Once the valves get dirty, the shifts get harder and eventually violent. The hard shifting causes gear teeth to start chipping and breaking until the tranny quits completely.

I hope this information helps someone else like it helped me.

Well my 06 is starting to show a brief overrev during light throttle upshifts when it is not fully warmed up. During this overrev interval it is slipping because acceleration seems to abate during this interval. It is as though the clutch was very briefly pushed in while lightly accelerating with a manual transmission vehicle. Once it gets a good heat soak it disappears.

Duffy is this the same as you describe?

No. Yours sounds like a "slipping". I'm noticing a very slight jerk/thump when 1. shifting between the lower gears, 2. when the engine is cold, and 3. at intermediate throttle.

Again, my wife (who also drives my truck on occasion) has not noticed it, but she is less sensitive to the quirks of the vehicle.

I have a 1/2 bottle in the transmission and the other 1/2 in the engine right now. Even after a few days I can notice a softening of the shifts.

I'm going to change the engine oil from Mobil-1 5W-30 Truck & SUV to Castrol GTX dino in my wife's 2003 4Runner V6 LTD this weekend so I can treat it with a bottle of Auto-Rx. I expect some significant cleaning as the V6 has a tendency to varnish and sludge somewhat. (Even switching from dino to synthetic made a HUGE difference in cleaning...)

On another note, I switched out the K20R-U OEM spark plugs with the NGK Iridium IX #BKR6EIX plugs a few weeks ago and, WOW!, what a difference. I can barely tell that the engine is even idling.

your experience with Auto-RX is quite promising and with the Oktoberfest sale, I might just give it a try. I did however wonder if there i an expiration date. according to their instructions, i gotta use one bottle to clean then 3-4 ounces every oil change. the more i buy the better the deal, but not looking to buy more than i need that will loose it's strength over time.

Based on my reading of their data, it doesn't go bad. The chemical makeup is more like a waxy substance in suspension. It is like warm maple syrup in consistency and color. I don't think it even reacts with water like, say, brake fluid, so opening and closing the bottle isn't going to do anything either. Their pricing structure makes it beneficial to buy at least 3-4 bottles at a time.

My $0.02

I have 150k km on my truck and the only tranny symptom I have so far is a light bump shifting from 1st to 2nd occasionally. Only in below freezing temps when I dont let the truck warm up enough and even then its only the first set of shift sometimes and doesn't happen again. Should I look into this stuff now before problems may arrise?

If you can strongly isolate your faint symptom to extreme weather conditions and a cold engine/transmission, then I'd probably hold off unless/until it gets more persistent and/or noticeable.

i have not gotten off my arse to pick some up for our vehicles yet, but glad to see that they are now running a thanksgiving special which looks like the same type of cost savings!

according to the instructions there is a clean then a rinse phase. even under the fast track instructions, my '92 wrangler that just sun bathes all year long and might get 20 miles put on it on a good year. i haven't contacted AutoRX yet, but what are your thoughts about using it on a sitting vehicle? i really would over to have the engine clean.

Not sure that you would achieve any effective engine cleaning without the miles. It needs the fluid(s) moving around at operating temperature for it to get to all the spaces and do the work. It's only 1000-1500 miles for the clean phase, and another for the "rinse" phase.

If you do the transmission cleaning as well, you can extend this mileage by adding an inline filter like the Magnefine.

UPDATE: After ~750 miles with 6-8oz of Auto-Rx in my transmission, I just did a drain/refill with Mobil-1 Synthetic ATF. (I considered doing a complete flush, but, with the holidays coming up, I just didn't have the time. A function of my decision was also that I have a Magnefine inline filter installed and I feel comfortable knowing that it is doing a significant amount of 3-10 micron filtering. I will do another 4qt drain/refill with the Mobil-1 Syn ATF in another 60 days or so.)

I have to say, all of the jerks/bumps/clunks I was experiencing during shifts are gone completely. The most improvement was evident in the first 24-36 hours of driving. The Mobil-1 ATF just did a final polishing of the shifting. It's like butter!

I am a believer. This stuff does what it says. I'm convinced it, along with the synthetic ATF, saved my transmission from an early grave.

I will always have a few bottles of this in my garage.
