Default Timing Belt ???

I just got my 2000 4x4 V8, it has 138,000 mi. I don't know if the timing belt has ever been changed. Is my engine an interference engine, and is there any way to know if my belt has been changed ? What should I do, suggestions please!

Also who makes a good looking fender flare for Tundras?

It is an interference engine so you do need to make sure that is done. If you know where the truck came from check with your local dealer to see if there are service records in the database.

Yes it is intereference. It is supposed to be done at 8 years or 90k, but there are plenty of people that went over. But you probably should get it done. If done at a Toy. dealer they usually put a sticker on the plastic engine cover. Otherwise call a dealer give em your vin and they might be able to tell you. Just to let you know expect to pay anywhere from 500 to 800 bucks for it.

Another option ,if the other suggestions fail, is to remove a coulpe bolts from the upper driver's side timing belt cover, this will let you get a "peak" at the backside of the timing belt and it should be quite obvious if it's recently replaced or original, I did this on my 2000 when I got the transmission sorted out and realized at 175,000 it had probably never been done, I was so scared by the looks of the belt I didn't even start the truck again until I was pulling it into the garage to replace the pump, and belt etc. Scott

I'm going to guess that most Tundra owners that don't frequent sites like this are completely unaware that the timing belt NEEDS to be replaced at 90K. Those who are aware of how important this service is, will likely put a dated sticker under the hood when completed. I know I'm going to. I'm having mine done right now. It will be nice knowing that I won't have to worry about this service for another 90K.
