Not sure how to remove the lighter itself, but you can get to the plug that plugs into it. Sounds like that's all you need anyways. Remove the ashtray and unscrew/remove the ashtray bracket. Once this is removed you have access to the lighter plug. There are two plugs on the rear of the lighter, the power and the bulb.

On mine, 2003 AC, I took out the lighter element. I then pressed two tabs inside the lighter outward while holding pressure on the back of the thing where the electrical connections are. The tabs are on the inside of the tube that the element fits into. It can then be pushed out (into the cab) and will release from the bezel that holds it in. It is a PITA to do!!! I would trace the wire and tap into it somewhere else if you can.

PITA indeed! Hard spot to get your fingers to do what you need them to do...

Try doing what he said above. Take out the ashtray. Remove the cig lighter bezel. Push the lighter guts in. Pull it out through the ashtray opening. It's a little larger of an opening to work with and you can get a flashlight in there to help also.

Good luck getting the wire harness plug back onto the cig lighter!

There is a little flange on mine that will not allow you to push it in. You need to reach behind it, remove the electrical clips (this also is a PITA) push the little tabs inside the tube out, and push the back of the lighter guts out tward the back of the cab. Be ready to get frustrated!!
