Default Re: Looking for 2nd Opinion on Power Adder.

STS used to sell a universal kit for our tundra ,when i looked 2years ago for 3995.
so i wonder why if it is universal it is 1700?
many questions.
i also knew that you need a 1 gallon tank of some type of added fuel, that mixes with regular gas.
also it is mounted to the back of the exhaust.

reason 2, if you hit a puddle, or any heavy high mud, etc your done for. it will suck it up& ruin your engine.
that is why i didn't do it.

but now it's 1700. wow less than 1/2 of just 2 years ago. i wonder why?
yes, you need a tuner & a good 1.
toyota's are the hardest to tune.
toyota doesn't want anyone to mess with there set up.
that is why many companys don't build anything for them.
they change there ecu units ,so many times, and all the codes.
it's hard to keep up.
no company will spend the time & effort for a 1 or 2 year application.
but yet everyone keep's waiting, please don't hold your breath.
1st find a STS authorized tuner installer shop. STS will give you there list.
do not do it yourslef, pay for a expert to do it, or forget it.
i'd hate for you to return here to say you blown up the tundra.
good luck, i wish you the best!

I've looked at Motiva's website, and I haven't been able to find any Tundra-specific applications. I'd love to do Cyl. Heads, but i have no idea who would make them to fit a Toyota 4.7L. As for the Filter location in the STS, I was going to order the Snorkel kit to relocate the filter up in the rear quarter panel. Also, STS claims that simply being under the truck and having to travel all the way back to the engine under the truck in the cool air acts as an intercooler with 50-60% efficiency. Yes, i'm skeptical, but i'm also desperate. I 've heard of the Tundracharger, but haven't been able to find any info on it. Also, this place STS Turbo Turbo Tuner System - TUN4700Q by STS Turbo Performance Parts who i've never heard of before, is selling a Tundra-Specific STS system before STS discontinued it. While i know they aren't credible, I'm wondering if i could find a Tundra-Specific kit from somewhere that IS credible. Also, if you look there, it says for '00-'04. Once again, VVT-I kicks my *** . Also, i thought it was 220bhp for Pre-VVTI 4.7's, and 272 for VVT-I 4.7's

hey darkone. these guys make a lot of good points. i worked with my brother on his turbo honda crx for what seemed to be forever. we had much frustration and went through a couple good blocks before we got it down and he did months of research before we started. some problems we faced were custom fabricating the exhaust piping, the intercooler, the computer made the motor fight itself, the motor was overheating a lot. its a battle and i wouldnt do it to my daily driving tundra. i think vtec and vvti are simialar in operation and the first motor we blew had vtec. it made things difficult even after flashing so we used a motor without it and got better results. turbos are NOT for the everyday guy to fiddle with. i have heard of sts but i would go to a shop that specializes in turbo applications and let them do it. remember not a lot of shops have experience with tundras. as far as your buddys ford, diesels are cheaters, they are nearly indestructable motors and thats why you can do that to them.

if you are simply 'desperate' for power, there are other ways to do it. I find it VERY hard to see a remote mounted turbo system add anywhere near 100 hp.

If I were you, I'd spend the money on a new bottem end, or atleast forged pistons/rods, new rings, get a place to port and polish your heads and replace your valves for severe application and throw a 2 stage NO2 (nitrous oxide) kit on it. If you're desperate for power, nitrous is definitely the best bang for your buck. It can be done safely and sanely. with a bottom and top end beef up. you'd probably be able to throw a 50hp spray at lower rpms and 150hp at higher rpms, maybe more? and BTW nitrous adds more torque than hp (good thing)

I'm currently waiting for a ZEX wet kit to come in the mail. I'm going to start with a low shot at first and slowly beef up my motor and up the spray from there. I'll let you know the results!
