Default the L push button on the dash

hi, for a long time, i always wondered what that was for. i have pushed it and nothing happened. well i finally found out how it works.

1st stop the car drop the shifter to 2nd, than push the button. on your dash guages it will light up low( which is 1st gear).

mash the gas, the wheel spin is sick.i guess every truck is different as to what will happen.

if you do get wheel spin, you can learn how much to press on the gas, so your wheel won't spin. you can knock of time off your run's.
no need to power brake, you might brake something.

i knocked off .3th's from 0 to 60'. i was surprised, but happy.
maybe you all knew of this. or there is a thread on this.
but i figured i'd let you all know.

You do know that your truck starts out in 1st gear all by itself, no need for the L/1st gear button. Thats so it doesnt shift out of 1st.

You don't have to be stopped to activate L (1st gear) but it won't engage if it would over-rev the engine. I have used it on steep hills to keep from riding the brake. If you really want to crawl down a hill, lock it in 4lo and then lock it in 1st gear....

For the first couple of days I had my truck I wonderd what that was for too, then I had time to read the manual. Kinda of an odd way to do it, definitely looks like an afterthought on Toyota's part.

Yea they got lazy and didnt want to redo the column. I dont see how this would make the truck any faster though. As said, it is starting in 1st already, the button is just to keep it in 1st gear. Maybe its in your head Gorilla?

The only way I could see it adding thrust is if you're doing a rollling start. You might be rolling along in 2nd and the slight delay in a downshift might cost you a few tenths.

But yeah, bones to Toyota for a lame design. Not real easy to find if you're driving and trying to watch the road and lock it into 1st year....

If your wallet was indeed "heavy" you'd have a supercharged 5.7....

Calm down dude...no one meant any harm....
