I run toyos in the winter and dropped to the 245/70-16's to keep my gearing stock. Studs are such cheap insurance there is no
reason not to have them up here. I never ran them in Alaska because it stays cold up there and the roads aren't slick in real
cold weather. I get about 2 years out of the studs and then pull them all and re-stud. It's a job but I can't find anyone else to
do it. Found the stud guns at a pawn shop several years ago.

That is not a bad idea. DIY studding is appealing because then a guy could install enough of them to actually be effective, unlike the handful that are supplied on prestudded tires today. I guess the only unknown would be if the tire has enough holes for all of them.
