Default anybody seen these?

ive always wondered whats up with these but i have an idea what they do. ever notice behind the rear seat on the back wall, there are two big plastic covered vents? i imagine its to relieve pressure on hot days when you dont crack the window but does anybody have some input? i saw them and hear them loud and clear since i yanked my useless weight we call a back seat. ive got an 03 access cab btw, not sure if these are on crews. they make the most annoying noise even after stuffing rags in them. thought about cutting them out n welding in some sheet metal but it looks like you have to pull the bed to get them. also my bed is a little off center side to side, doesnt bother me but does anybody else have that?

not sure what the design intent was, maybe to help vent the air like when you have the fan on.

I blocked one, since I mounted my amp on the back wall. never heard noise coming from mine, but I still have the rear seat there to help hide any noise. Then again, my amp helps to make a lot of speaker noise to drown out all other noises.

Those are probably there so you can actually open the door in case you happen to pull a vacuum inside the cabin, like parking it while hot and then cools overnight. I know when I was working designing equipment cases, even with a little vacuum inside a sealed case, you could not pry open the case with your hands. So they probably do that so you can open your doors.

thanks for that explanation. i hadnt thought of vaccum. i never heard the noise until i pulled the seat, its the wind sound when i drive and if i have the fan pulling in fresh air, these things whistle. they do seem to have a one-way flap in them. anybody else know whats up with these?

I've never noticed them. Part of the cabin air filtration system maybe??

I have found these on ford trucks also, made it nice to run wires into and out of the truck like antenna wires for cb and sirius. I think a vent is probably the best choice to prevent a vacume seal in my opinion.

I did the same thing with my accesscab.

only after ditching the back seat, i bolted a piece of plywood with some high density foam stuffed in between. then stapled some carpet on the plywood.

no more road noise, and plenty of cargo space to spare.

10-4. i searched for an answer before but never found one. its not a filter or part of the ducting. i think you guys are right with the vacuum theory. i was thinking pressure relief but either way. thanks for the replies.

These are vents to allow flow through ventilation. This has been discussed before in an old thread. See post #2.
