I just bought an '06 Tundra double cab two days ago with 28k miles on it. Never owned a truck before, much less a V8 (age 45). A little intimidated with the size and turning radius, but I'm starting to get the hang of it. I really love the smooth, quiet nature of the vehicle. Beautiful machine. I plan on continuing to work commute on my Suzuki V-Strom 650 to keep the miles off her; using it primarily for family outings / campouts / roadtrips with a future pop-up camper . Who knows - maybe a couple of dirt bikes on the horizon.
Question: Mine is an SR5, 2wd, without a lot of 'bells and whistles'; I was wondering, did the keyless entry fob come standard with all SR5's, or was it an option? The dealer didn't have one for this truck, and I'm beginning to think that's kind of odd. If it was not on the option list for this truck, can I buy the transmitter fob from Toyota sometime down the road, or is it more involved ($) than that?
Looking forward to making decisions on a bedliner (Line-X vs. mat), nerf bars, and bed cover/lid to make it really 'mine'.
Well if you have a canopy or cover I would go with a bedrug but heard they do fine open to the air just a possible theft problem. mine is under canopy and has been bullet proof.
I pulled out the brochure info on the 06 and it was optional only on the regular cab. (remote keyless entry system)
then for the security system with remote keyless entry that was a option on the DC SR5
Hi neighbor. I bought mine used at a lot in Trussville several years ago, and also got no fobs. I thought it was optioned enough to have had keyless. One dealer said it didn't, and another (Serra) tried hard to make it work. They found the "brain box" (for lack of a correct term), under the dash, but couldn't make a factory fob sync with it. In the end, I just got sick of fooling with it and bought an aftermarket keyless system. I would think that your 06 would have it, but then again, I thought mine would too.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I'll see what happens at the local Toyota dealer. The owners manual says a replacement (re-programmed, based on the VIN) can be had. I just wasn't sure that the 'receiver' in this particular truck existed, and it sounds like it does.
I'm not sure how the Toyota system works, but I bought one for my wife's Maxima off of ebay. For about ten bucks! It came with programming instructions, which consisted of turning the switch off and on many times while seated in the car. Works great. May be something to look into.

I bought my 2006 extra key fob on ebay too for about $15 or 20. It came with instructions. make sure you get the right FCC code for your truck as double cabs and access cabs do not share the same system.
In fact, I had a 2003 and a 2006 Tundras at one point and when I reprogrammed the remote for one and then the other all commands ( Open / close the doors ) worked on both trucks at the same time. I sold the 03 and kept the 06.

i picked one up off ebay for 20 bucks....... tried all the programming codes without any luck... never got to the part where the truck does any of the locking acknowledging it has gone into programming mode.... there for im assuming that mine just doesnt have keyless entry

Interesting. Does anyone know if the Toyota website will allow you to obtain your vehicle's original option list from entering your VIN?
