Bought an 06 4.0 access 2wd about a month ago. Didn't think it had the LSD, but when I punch it in the dirt parking lot it appears both tires are driving. Is there a plate or label were I can locate a build code for the LSD?
THe 06's would have a sticker on the rearend stating LSD or not.
Though I have LSD in mine but dont have the sticker. If you go to your local dealer and have them run the VIN they can tell you if it does or not.

It only has a tag that has the # 82 and two faded letters on it. Looks more like a inspection tag. Thanks for the help, Ill get the dealer to run the vin.
Just jack up the rear end, turn the ignition on but don't start it, put it in drive rotate one tire in a forward direction and if the other rotates the same direction you most likely have an LSD rear end. If one rotates reverse while the other rotates forward you defiantly do NOT have LSD.
PS safety first block the front wheels!!!!!!!!!!

I was wondering the same a while ago. I checked for the tag, too faded to read. I called toyota, they checked the vin and said I have a tow package but couldn't confirm the rear end. the tech told me to just power brake for a few seconds and watch the driver side tire, so to the dirt I went and found I'm a 1wd dog legger. only the passenger side spins if you have an open diff.

There is a post on here that states there is a drain plug difference for the lsd vs the non lsd. If you do some searching it should turn up. Basically the drain plug will be on one side for the lsd equipped diff vs the non lsd.....

This is the way to do it, or punch it like you said you did in some dirt and
see if it leaves two sets of tracks. I did the VIN route with the dealer
and they couldn't tell me either way.

You can't always tell if you have an LSD if you leave two spin tracks in dirt. If both rear tires have the same traction a non LSD rear end can leave two spin tracks. I do it all the time when I was pulling tree stumps out from my back yard. I have an LSD in the rear but an open differential in the front (non-LSD) and I almost always have two spin ruts from my front tires.

Correct, I could leave two spin tracks in gravel with my truck. Had to add LSD anyway, needed the traction when it mattered.
that's interesting. the guy at toyota told me to do it on the street, but I'm not looking to wear out my nice tires. that's why I went for dirt. Only one tire spins for me, especially if I'm turning. I never checked for marks, I watched the actual tires. Could this be a 2wd vs 4wd difference? The drain plug scott mentioned sounds like a good way to know as long as your truck hasn't had lsd installed since leaving the factory.

I just checked your first post.... I dont recall any v6 tundras being equipped with a LSD, mostly SR5's with TRD package...2 wheel tracks are very common on dirt regardless of open or limited slip...sorry to break it to ya but I am pretty sure you dont. That shouldnt keep ya from getting one though...
Saweeet! I thought that I did not have LSD, but I looked at the cover and someone wrote LSD on it in yellow marker. I put the parking brake on in the dirt and punched it - sure enough the right spun for about half a turn then the truck lunged forward with both wheels driving. Good times to come
