Default Removing the resonator on the "06 Tundra

I am thinking about removing the resonator on my Tundra, it has 40k miles and it sounds great with the Borla cat-back and K&N kit , but was wondering if I would get any more power from removing it or anything at all except the added sound. Any ideas from anyone ? I plan on chipping it with a Unichip and control module after the first of the year.

He already did

FWIW, the resonator is there strictly for noise reduction. It's not going to make the truck any faster, or slower.

while going from muffler to muffler I looked inside the resonator, it looks like a straight through design. It shouldn't take away hp. If you do yank it you will just get sound, maybe 5lbs of weight reduction.

I was told at a muffler shop last week that it might get louder but also have the chance of a popping type sound on decel. Does that happen with yours since you removed the resonator? Any cons at all to removing-droning etc?

no race car like popping (like Corsa exhaust on more exotic cars) on deceleration with removal of the resonator. just pretty much makes it louder. my quiet little Gibson really came alive without the resonator. looking at the inlet to the resonator itself it seems the two stock pipes get pretty narrow to both fit in the opening. but i can't say it gave me any power

I have ZERO popping sound when slowing down. As for getting louder, it is louder and may get louder over time. However, I've had mine for a while and it sounds quiet to me. Though my neighbors and friends say it's pretty damn loud. LOL.

I have read where some people complained about drone in the cab and are sorry they removed it. No first hand experience though. Good Luck!

Mine droned like hell when I first got it. It went away after a few months so that is why I am a little hesitant to remove the resonator. I have to go back to the exhaust shop soon though since my exhaust is leaking again. The clamps supplied by Magnaflow are not very good I dont think. I am just going to get them to weld it together. Maybe I will also get the resonator removed but I would kick myself if it got REALLY loud and started droning again. Besides, I am 40 with 2 kids. I think I am a little past being the dude with the loudest ride on the street

LOL!! Good one.

As I said above my resonator is gone, and all my joints are welded, not clamped. Now, when I put on the Flowmaster it made it louder, however, when I removed the resonator it made it twice as loud. For me, it's right at the limit of how loud I want. I also have a kid, and haul a trailer in the summer, and have a nagging wife so I have to balance all of those. LOL. I think my kid is going to be a car guy as he will sleep when in the truck, but as soon as you shut it off he wakes up. He likes a Flowmaster too. hehe.
