Default Steering clunking

first off, i didn't know the best place to put this so MOD, you can move wherever is appropriate if this causes an issue.

This past weekend, i did some VERY light wheeling, really just driving on the trail we call our driveway at our vacation house. Studded w/ rocks and somewhat rutted nothing the really REQUIRES 4x4 but is a nice feature to have in this case. I digress. I noticed that my steering felt clunky, i could feel it in the wheel and hear it ticking/rattling as well. It was definitely from the terrain, and wasn't from my input on the steering wheel, but from the roads input on the tires.

I do not feel this if i sit still and quickly jerk the wheel back and forth. 4x4 on or off didn't matter. The only other time i feel it is going over train tracks, but then that is for a split second and not over a distance so it is tough to compare.

I had the truck up in the air at the toyota shop i work at, today. and everything looked and felt firm and tight.

I haven't had my '05 DC for long, just sold my '94 and that steering was great off-road, and this was the first time i brought it upstate so the first time i really felt this. i dont THINK it is normal.

none of the good guys were at the shop to ask today being that its Saturday

do you guys have any answers/ideas/suggestions/input?

thanks a lot.

John

Check your rack bushings. It sounds like more than that though. Take a video and give more symptoms, When turning left only over loose gravel while Im doing fish tails. It could be allot of stuff from shocks to cv joints, bearings, tie rods, upper lower ball joints, control arm bushings.
