    Default Front suspension help please!

Hi, I just bought my first Tundra. Abesolutely love the truck; however, I have a squeak. The sound is coming from the front drivers side shock. I have for sure narrowed it down to the shock. You can push on the shock from the very top where the threads are and push it just a bit. Also, if you put a wrench to the top the top half of the shock will spin. Neither of these two problems happen on the passenger side. Is the shock just busted, or do I have other problems? Just hear the metal squeak when going over bump. The truck is a 2005 Tundra, double cab, 4x4, limited, with the 4.7. Any help would be useful. Thank you.

    Sounds like a dead strut.

If you want to retain stock height, get a new front set of Bilstein HD's.
If you want to lift the front and level the truck get the 5100's. I am sure AJUSA could set you up with either, I got my 5100's through him.

You gave it a whole 12 hours before coming off like a petulant child.

This is a public forum. Others are here to help at a time of their choosing, not yours. If you want or need immediate attention, take your truck to a mechanic.

Not even acting childish, usually being a new person on a forum doesnt get you the best help. Plus that was mean as more of a joke than coming or ultra serious. But I am getting a little impatient bought the truck last friday and been at the dealers shop for a week. Just to pick it up with more problems. They dropped the tank to replace fuel line and now takes 45 minutes to fill up cause its kinked. What I get for letting others do my work. I wAs looking online could this problem be the shock mount itself. It's a relatively cheap part. Gonna break it down today after duty.

No worries. It's just those "Gee... thanks for the no help" posts don't fly too well on technical forums.

CJ (cpearson817) probably has it right. It sounds like the strut's toast. Make sure that all the shock mount bolts (3) are torqued properly. Also, make sure that the coil isolator pad (between the top of the coil and the upper shock mount) is still intact.

If you choose to replace the struts, regardless of ride-height, I would suggest the Bilstein 5100s as a replacement. They're only a few bucks more than the HDs, but you have the option of running at anywhere from stock height to about 2" of front lift. If you also get the valve-matched rear 5100s, they will accomodate up to 1.5" of lift via either a block or add-a-leaf (AAL).

Hope you get the gas tank filling tube figured out. That sounds like a major PITA...

Thanks man. I'm gonna take it apart later. I think it could be that mount now. The shock having wiggle just concerns me. The shock being busted shouldn't cause wiggle.

The lower shock bushings on mine were worn out at around 36k and squeaked like a mofo. The bushings are available separately.

Are you talking about the stock shocks? I think the top half is just a dust cover, it should spin free. If I remember right, the shock body is on the bottom half, exposed from the coil, and the top half inside the coil is just a tube cover.

You did mention threads at the top, what threads are they? I was thinking you have aftermarket coilovers from that part.

I believe everything is stock. I could be wrong though. Don't know that much about these trucks. It does have coil overs though. the threads out of the top are the top threads of the strut. I actually had time to look today. The part that spins is a dust cover. I priced out some bilstien shocks today for fun not to bad. Need to get new tires also. Right now the truck has 285/70 r17 will a shock truck fit these of does this truck have lifting springs there is no leveling spacer.
