Default 2005 Tundra Cracked frame / Cross member / Steering Rack...fixable? totalled?

2005 Toyota Tundra DC, Icon coilovers, 33" tires....NOT a wheeler...

So I was driving up my driveway after some big storms...right side of driveway had eroded and when I drove over it about 14 inches crumbled, pulling my truck into a 3 ft. deep narrow ditch. I was able to get a pull out....thought it was fine, but when I took my truck in for an inspection.....

The steering rack had completely torn off the frame, cracked crossmember, just torn apart hanging...4WP wouldn't even touch it, towed it to a body shop that does frame work, but had 2 out of 3 people tell me its totalled.....??? Would they say that because if it IS fixable it won't be safe?? Kinda stumped...thx!

Wow kauaigs I am really sorry to hear about your truck. I have never heard of a frame breaking like that before. I have no answers for you other than there are guys here who will know the answer. Hopefully they see this thread and chime in.

Going to be impossible for strangers on the net to properly advise you. It all depends on the extent and nature of the damage. Everything's fixable if you have enough money. The decision to total it is just an economic one.

I'd get 2-3 opinions from different shops in your area. If they all say the same, then they're probably accurate.

To be fair, 4WP is really just a parts retailer with a narrowly-focused install capability. They're not a true "repair" shop.

I'm too lazy to go crawl under my truck to look right now but I think the crossmember is replaceable. If you're lucky it's a bolt-on part.

It should be part number 51202-0C011 - Crossmember Sub-Assy, Frame, No. 2 - about $600 from the dealer - 51203 in this drawing:

pics would help us give you more advice and I'm also very interested to see what kind of damage it sustained. your best bet is to take it around to a few collision shops as mentioned and see what the consensus is

Going out on a limb here but if it's a cross member; isn't that one of the parts that fits into the rust recall that Toyota has? Mine has rust holes in the spare tire crossmember and one on each side of the frame. Decision: new frame. Something to check out.
